I've noticed that in the past few weeks the only thing I post about is VM. I think it's because I've been avoiding this post, so let's dig in, shall we?
I watched the pilot of 30 Rock and I didn't really care for it, which made me sad because I love Tina Fey.
I'm kind of torn between liking and disliking the FNL characters. I think it's due to the fact that kids like that are what made my high school life hell. =P
I really liked the pilot for The Nine, and I watched around two more episodes, but I thought it just got really boring and redundant.
I don't really know Tina Fey, she was on SNL, right? I stopped watching in the 90s sometime and I doubt she was there at the time.
Most of the FNL characters aren't exactly hateful, I just don't care and they're writing the show as if they expect me to care without giving me a reason and the whole thing comes off as being poorly thought out.
I really liked the pilot for The Nine as well, though the second episode made me wonder if I didn't like it because I watched it in the TV drought of summer. I've got till 1x04 ready to watch, but if it's not getting any better I won't feel the least bit bad about cutting it loose.
I don't think they're offbeat, I think they're mostly just stupid. Maybe they go over better if you know the guy from before, but I've never seen him before in my life and to me, the character is too over the top and not at all a good fit for the show. All the rest of them feel real and he doesn't, so it all looks fake.
I liked the pilot of The Nine, but the second episode did nothing for me. We'll see if it picks up.
I really enjoy hating on Jake's brother, who's just the biggest douche. And of the ones I really like to like, Heather is probably right there at the top. I like Jake, but I think the way they're dragging out telling us his background is just stupid, and I like Stanley and Mimi.
I really enjoy hating on Jake's brother, who's just the biggest douche. I hate him so much!
And of the ones I really like to like, Heather is probably right there at the top. Yes! My pretty schoolteacher!
I like Stanley and Mimi. I...don't remember who Stanley is. Mimi is the auditor who was on an episode of Sports Night, which is why she looked familiar to me although she looked more familiar to me than that.
I didn't hate the show, and I liked the pretty women and the Hawkins intrigue, but I finally gave it up because it just wasn't worth my time. I wasn't getting enough out of it, and it's not like all my friends were watching and talking about it too, which is why I keep watching S60.
I'm still watching because I can recognize that right now it's good TV. I just don't care all that much.
I get that sense from FNL as well - shaky cameras aside, it seems like a good show, just not one that I'd particularly enjoy watching. I'm currently down on entertainment that doesn't actually entertain me, which I suppose is very bourgeois and anti-intellectual of me, but - eh. Can I have some smart tv that doesn't make me want to jump off a bridge or pitch all the characters off one, please?
It has all the qualities of a good show and yet it's just not clicking for me. It may be too early in the game to call this one, but I predict a mid-season drop for me. Unless something really starts clicking, especially in the 'shipping department. Nothing like a good 'ship to get me on board.
Can I have some smart tv that doesn't make me want to jump off a bridge or pitch all the characters off one, please? I think TV has been getting pretty good in the last few years, but the so-called "smart shows" are usually just ones that devolve into insipidness before too long. I'll take something I love over something that's rubber stamped as good any day.
It just seems kind of... overwhelmingly depressing, from what I've seen of it. Which I think works better for a book or a movie than it does for a weekly drama.
And you're right - it's not that there aren't good shows on right now, it's that there's a specific kind of self-appointed "smart show" that tends to frustrate me: they pop up, they get critical acclaim, their ratings tank, and they get canceled. And critics blame the audience for not having higher standards when sometimes the show isn't blameless for its own lack of success. It's hard to walk that line of being dark and daring and thought-provoking without being depressing, off-putting or condescending, and the better a show is, the more I tend to expect of it, perhaps unfairly.
Also, unrelated, but:
Nothing like a good 'ship to get me on board.
Sigh. I need a new ship. I'm kind of hoping Heroes will pull something out for me.
they pop up, they get critical acclaim, their ratings tank, and they get canceled. Or else they don't get canceled, but instead don't live up to their early promise and people are disillusioned. I mean, I still love VM and it's still my show and all, but anyone who says that it's still as good as season 1 is kidding themselves.
I can't see any kind of 'shipping potential for Heroes. Of course, I'm not easy to please in that if I'm going to fall for a 'ship it has to be one that's at least possible in canon. There is Niki/Nathan, but I don't really like either character, and Peter/Simone (and Isaac/Simone for that matter) are just beyond UGH!
Hahahaha! WAY TO BEAT AROUND THE BUSH. I totally agree. It's sad.
Especially Six, who's just all over the place in terms of characterization.
I agree. I usually consider her my favourite, but I'm not sure what I think of her at the moment. I pretty much don't like anything over at the Cylon ship. I'd much rather have never seen it. I don't think what they've shown us has lived up to even half of my expectations of it.
I'm liking Friday Night Lights more than you, I think. And Matt and Tami are my favourites as well. I like the Coach too, but I don't love him because he pretty much feels like every other good-but-slightly-tortured-coach of every other sports show or movie ever.
I forgot about it for three hours. I think that pretty much sums up my interest in this show. Heh! I pretty much did the same thing with Torchwood yesterday. By the way, don't watch Torchwood. Not that you were going to anyway, but still, I feel I should warn you

I pretty much don't like anything over at the Cylon ship. Is it just me or do those sets look really cheap? I think my biggest disappointment in regards to the cylons is that it looks to me like they're moving away from the ambiguity of previous seasons and making them evil, power hungry and unfeeling. And they seem to be investing more in the humans, when the truth is that I just don't enjoy watching them that much.
By the way, don't watch Torchwood. Not that you were going to anyway, but still, I feel I should warn you. Hee! Don't worry, I'm not watching, nor do I have plans to watch. I'm a bit saddened for those who actually like the franchise that the spin-off is not holding up all that well
