Jems' Law?

Sep 11, 2006 17:00

I think we need a new fandom law, akin to Godwin's Law, that states that anyone who posts any variation of "get a life" in a fandom-related forum automatically loses the argument. Who's with me?

I'm translating a movie right now, and I really wish that when they give me these kinds of assignments, and then shave five days off my deadline, they ( Read more... )

Ah yes, Danish. Hee. It's the little things. I mean, I'm pretty used to it, living down here. Still...

Also, what exactly do you mean by "fandom-related forum" (communities or...)? I mean, I don't see my LJ, for instance, that way. But then, I don't really consider myself as part of any fandom, so while I understand obsessions I feel I have the right to think that certain fanatics are... a bit extreme. Though, I mostly just stay away from certain venues. And, you're right that people should try not to be rude.

Exactly! At least I have something to go on this time, translating stuff like SAS training videos was excruciating.

"Fandom-related forums" would be LJ comms, TWoP forums, other types of fandom-related notice boards, even comments to fandom-related articles online, but not personal journals. For me, it's not the rudeness that bothers me (because the comments they're usually responding to are usually ruder), but the mindboggling hypocracy of dictating to fans of a show just how deeply involved they can be, while posting in a forum that would make most "normal" people think of you as a nut job.

I invested in Nudansk ordbog last year, and I must say it's learnt me stuff I'd never thought of. *resolves to watch more news-oriented Danish television*

Well, yeah... the hypocrisy is often astounding, and so is the rudeness all over. See above re: staying away from those places. ;-)

And, I think Victor Hammer had a very large part in my enjoyment of Veronica Mars, as I can't even get excited about next season. Bah, humbug.

I have so many dictionaries, but it seems I never have enough.

(I find it funny how I can never spell hypocrisy correctly. For posts I usually look it up, but I can't be seemed to bother when it comes to comments. =)

I think the reason I don't enjoy those kinds of forums are more that I never find anything interesting there, it's just a rehash of things I already know, or it's something too inane to bother with. LJ friends are so much better.

Victor Hammer is so instrumental to the first season, but season 2 had so many problems apart from the cinematography that I don't think I could have enjoyed it much even if he'd been there. The capping might have been more fun, though.

You got MNiE nine days early? Damn. I can't wait to get mine. The cast is so hilarious, so I'm sure they've got some great bloopers. I still can't believe Victor Hammer got shafted by the Emmys again and didn't even get a nomination for that show.

I did! The set isn't as well done as The Office box, but I prefer content over packaging anyway (though The Office has both, so...). There seem to be some deleted scenes, but I doubt anything can even come close to The Office extravaganza.

The Emmys are such a sham. If Victor Hammer hasn't even been nominated, much less won, the statue isn't worth the crappy plastic base it's sitting on.

Meanwhile, According to Jim, an over-saturated orange monstrosity, managed a cinematography nomination for making my eyes bleed while watching 30-second ads on TV. Go figure.

P.S.: I'm loving your Office caps (surprise, surprise). I was looking for non Jim/Pam caps for a mood theme the other day and it's a bitch. For a popular show, there aren't nearly enough avi caps out there.

P.S.2: As far as I'm concerned, the law is approved. I never knew there were levels of fannish involvement for people who sign up to an online forum to talk about tv shows. I'm pretty sure we all qualify as dorks/nerds?

I've translated a few seconds of the show (a guest on Martha I think. Oh wait, Kimberly something, who played the bride in Father of the Bride), but they were in a restaurant or bar or something and I definitely remember blues. Was not impressed by the cinematography at all.

You know, much as I don't like Michael as a character, Steve Carell is great to cap because of his many facial expressions, and I love all the rest of the characters, so I want there to be caps of them. I know there's someone who's capped most of the avis this summer and averages 1000+ caps per episode. I can't even imagine how many crappy caps you need in a batch in order to reach 1000. Though I did just get 667 caps for Casino Night, but in my defense it is almost 30 minutes and there need to be practically frame-by-frame shots of the "I'm in love with you" and the kiss scene.

Shatner's Law. I like it.

You know, even though Shatner set the example for the stupidity I think you're right, it should be named after him. *sees dreams of Internet notoriety perish*

I never thought I'd get so attached to a director of photography, but I did. And now he's gone. *sniff*

"get a life"
I hate it when they say that. Cause having an opinion means you've nothing else to be thinking about but the show. People are annoying!

Yes! On both counts. *g*

Who's with me?

Present and accounted for!

I read somewhere that the MNIE DVDs would have an alternate pilot, where he doesn't figure out the karma thing. Or something. Is that on there?

Awesome! We can start a movement.

I'm guessing it's the featurette called Bad Karma. From the box:

"Earl Misadventure: 'Bad Karma'
In an alternate reality, Earl makes a list of everyone who's ever screwed him over...and it's payback time!"

Hee! Sounds hilarious.

That sounds great.

I forgot to mention on my comment to your other post that I plan on detailing the runway looks for the Project Runway show, which is Friday, like I did last time. I think I was wrong with who would be final 3, but I don't know. We'll see soon!

That's great. And by then we'll have our final four, right? I keep thinking I'm missing someone, but we're down to Michael, Uli, Laura, Jeffrey and Kayne now, correct? So Wednesday is the cut-off point for a runway show. If there's one more contestant I've completely spaced on I'll probably wait a week to look at your post, but I'll definitely want to see it before the finale airs.
