  • Both my sites are inaccessible right now because of a "power outtage". And you know that extra disc space? Gone. I knew it was too good to be true.
  • Ever go to someone's icon page and think that each individual icon has some merit, but together they just look like ass? Like the user has terrible taste? Because that just happened to me.

Today I had to go through hundreds of posts at [info]cap_it to find the DVD caps from Popular that I know I saw there at one point. And that's why that place needs tags. The reason that the memories have been so bad lately is because the owner (a good friend of mine) has had a lot of health problems and nearly all of the memory mods have essentially disappeared (without saying a word to her before doing so). She just added me as a mod, and I've started going back and trying to add the missing memories for her, but it's hard to tell where the heck they ended their updates at because they didn't really keep their progress updated. Last night I was able to update approximately 200 memories, so I'm slowly and steadily getting things up to date ( ... )

I know. But the fact of the matter is that the community has become practically unusable in the past few months, and the members have had no recourse at all. We've just had to put up with the fact that the community has been poorly managed and we haven't been able to archive our own posts in any way.

The amount of posts in just a WEEK is insane.
Which tags would help alleviate since people wouldn't have to post as often since the amount of tags a post can have are unlimited.

I really don't understand why anyone would think that it would be harder to just delete posts that don't comply with the rules than to enter every single entry into the memories, but I guess it's your choice to take on that kind of workload. I do have a request, though. If you're not going to implement tags, could you change the security settings so that users can create tags so that we'll at least have the choice if this should ever happen again? It's really not fun to have a comm that used to help suddenly become this black hole of nothingness.

Hmm...are you sure that you're not already able to do that? I could have sworn I had seen tags on someone's posts while going through everything.

The default is that only the maintainers can create tags, which means that someone would have had to have changed the security setting for users to be able to tag their entries. But if a maintainer posted they could have added tags to their entry, I guess.

I was kind of hoping that you'd hold off on the season 2 picspam until I'd gotten the season 2 DVDs (because PRETTY!), but now I'm hoping for entirely new picspams instead! That's the best part - no one is ever going to go: "Oh no, not another Logan picspam!"

Oh, and yesterday I started searching through season 1 caps to do a V/L picspam, but I gave up almost immediately because I wanted to post every single cap I found just from the pilot! You show incredible restraint! I'm pretty much in awe over here.

I usually get sidetracked by icon ideas and abandon the whole project.

It's really YOUR fault though, because you catch every single moment so well.
Oh sure, blame me! No really, blame me, I have absolutely no problem with that. Hee! I don't think you'd have to make those kinds of agonizing decisions if it were anyone else but Logan, because JfDoh is such fun to cap that I must catch every single second. Yesterday I was struck with the way Logan looks at Veronica, so that was actually the first time I got sidetracked. He's just wholly focused on her, even back when they hated each other's guts, and then throughout the season you can see how his expression softens gradually whenever he looks at her. It's really quite amazing.

I'm still thinking of the V/L picspam (or possibly the Logan-looking-at-Veronica picspam mentioned above), and I'm sure it'll happen eventually.

Thanks for pointing out the Scrapbook -- I haven't even used mine's yet, but your suggestion makes a lot of sense. I've been meaning to go and update my icons site on my domain but that just leads to a lot of headaches (thankfully, got htaccess set up, but it's still weirdy.) I like the fact that you can move the icons about. That's cool.

Nowadays I just search LJ through Google for links to caps if I can't find it through directly looking at cap_it. Mostly I'll find posts with people going "so and so linked blah caps" and I'll go look. It's a sneaky method but hey, if it works.. ;)

I went on an organizing kick the other day and organized my tags (well, somewhat anyway) and my Scrapbook. LJ may get it horribly wrong sometimes (navigation strip anyone?), but they do occasionally get it right.

I hardly ever go searching for screencaps these days because I do tend to cap everything I want myself, but I hate not being able to find stuff that's been posted in the comm if I want to, and I especially hate other people not being able to find what I've posted.

obviously 13 maintainers for a community of 10,000 members who actively post isn't enough. They really need to take some on who are designated for strictly tagging.

There have been maintainers strictly for adding memories and strictly for deleting the broken links, etc. but as I mentioned above a lot of them have just disappeared.

True. Personally, I think strictly tagging entries would be the much wiser option at this point, but it's not my decision to make.

I thought about uploading my icons to LJ, but then they would change the file names, unless they have an option to turn that off and I just completely missed it. It's just easier for me to keep track of my icons if they have their original file names. Otherwise, I would definitely switch to LJ.

I really don't care about the file names. Heck, when I was still uploading at Photobucket I used to let it give my icons a random name. You can use tags for the images, though, and if you're doing it to be able to find images quicker that might be an even better option for you.
