I think my poor Firefox is going to crash one of these days

Mostly from under the weight of all those extensions I keep installing. Today I have added:
  • PDF Download. I hate .pdf documents opening automatically and I always never even notice that it is a .pdf document until it's too late and I have to sit there for, like, ever until the Adobe Reader has opened. This one gives you a popup with the choices to ( Read more... )

I learned from txvoodoo that you can use the Photoshop eyedropper tool to select colors if you just click inside PS and then hold down the button as you move into another program. But I rarely have PS open when I want to find a color, so this is much simpler.

You know, I've used Eyedropper FOR YEARS, because it'll pick colors from any part of your screen no matter what software is opened. I find it better because I pick colors from Dreamweaver and ACDSee more often than from any browser.

Also, doesn't Crtl+Z = undo tab closing for Firefox? That's what I use on Netscape and I'm pretty sure it came with.

HI.

How does it work? Do you have to run an external program? Because my favorite thing about all extensions is that they run within Firefox.

Ctrl+Z does not undo close tab in Firefox. Unfortunately. And while there are tons of "Advanced tab functionality" extensions I have yet to find one that will give you a simple "Undo Close Tab" in the tab right-click menu.

Hiiiiii!

Thanks for those. My personal favourite extension is SessionSaver, which magically restores my last browsing session. It comes in handy when you're reading fanfic, get sleepy and can come back the next day to find the page exactly where you left it, really nifty.

I tried the Session Saver, but it annoyed the crap out of me, because it messed up Firefox the first time I opened it after installing. Plus, I'm so used to having my Friends filter as my home page that it felt downright uncomfortable not to have them load on start-up. I can see so many benefits with it, though, that I might give it another try.

The last three extensions look to be exactly what I've always wanted. I've never really become comfortable with the whole saving/downloading when it comes to Firefox. THANKS!

The best part about Firefox is that you can usually find an extension that will do exactly what you want/are used to, and even extensions that you never knew how much you needed until you installed them.

The most annoying part of right-click, save as in my work email program. When I click on an e-mail, it's pop-up and when I go to save a file by right-clicking, I get a read.asp file, not the attachment that was sent. It's ridiculous, so I am gonna have do some research. However, I just installed the Save Link in Folder extension and I am officially in love.

If you use Thunderbird you can install the same extensions there as in Firefox. I'm not sure exactly how it works because I've never tried it, but that's what I heard. Or read, whichever.

I love Save Link in Folder for when certain people on my flist who shall remain nameless post goodies like, say, the Office webisodes for download. Soooo much easier to just right-click and choose without getting that pop-up thing.

A while back I went nuts for search engines and installed a bunch, so you might want to look into those. My favorite part about them is when I'm looking for a torrent and can search Mininova, Demonoid and ISOhunt by only changing the search engine and not have to type it into three different sites. Plus, Wikis are incredibly helpful, especially when you can switch between languages. You don't even know how helpful that was when I had to translate a show about soccer. I mean, I know the rules, I understand the terms, but how the hell should I know what they're called in English?!

Sorry, tangent. =)

Anyway, my last list of added extensions are listed in this entry, but the ones I always install immediately when I come to someone's house who doesn't use Firefox (at which point I promptly download it and show them its awesomeness, of course) are ForcastFox (weather) and FoxyTunes (media player in the status bar).

I've been using ColorZilla, LiveJournal Hook and FireFTP for ages (couldn't live without the first two)
I found Clippings maybe half a year ago and you are right, see I mod three LJ-layout help communities and half of the questions is asked and asked again and the answer is most likely in the communities memoires, so I use clippings a lot now ;)
I should make a list like that too some day, but I do have a few FF extension recs in my userinfo

I usually only find extensions when I go browsing and see something that I didn't even know I needed until that very moment. Like the LJ Hook thing. I've gotten so used to bolding and italics and strike-throughs that I'll probably keep coding those by hand for the most part, but I hate coding links and usually open up my Semagic to do it there, but now I no longer have to!

I mostly use LJ Hook for links, images, lj user tags stuff like that. Mostly I bold by hand too ;)
