Being ex-Catholic myself, I still take HUGE umbrage at the idea that Dan Brown could be presenting anything more than fiction. People are gullible, and it's frustrating because, instead of picking valid, visible, real-life reasons to criticize and improve religious organizations (ie outmoded viewpoints on social issues, insufficient protection against those using the cloth for less than divine purposes, et cetera), they latch onto completely made up crap, and cause drama that really shouldn't even be worth discussing.
*sigh*
I could write a book based on historical truth, too, but fiction is not, itself, truth, anyone more than an author is the same as the protagonist of a novel.
You can lead a person to literature, but you can't make them think.
