Look!

Oh, how wonderful!

I like it a great deal. It's so vivid. That elegant curve of the neck - herons always have such tight curves in their necks, it seems like it shouldn't be possible - and that wonderful curve of the fish... You can see its barbels! And the feathers, the individual feathers, on the heron.

*admires happily*

*stands back a little ways and slowly unwinds his hat ribbons from around his fingers and loosens his grip on the brim* *grins a little, and begins to feel much better*

It's a nice bird, all right.

*shh, is still getting articulate again after trauma*

*did not know Pencroff was upset, so does not notice especially much*

It is! *smiles at it* And such a nice photograph. Have you ever seen a good photograph of a bird before? They always move too soon!

*that's all right, and probably better for Pencroff*

I'll say you're right about that, lad. Makes Mr. Spillett fair furious* when he's trying to take one. It would make you laugh to see him, it would.

*Typist: read: semi-grouchy. Thank you for hyperbole, Pencroff.

it is a pretty bird, isn't it ...

was it? well, that's better, i suppose. didn't have time to despair over the brevity of life and all that, then -- and fish, well, fish don't have very long to live, anyway, do they? so i suppose if it was a very clever fish, it would've got all the despairing done early, and spent the rest of the time on happier things, like swimming about and looking scenic. it probably didn't mind dying very much, if it was so happy all ready. and it did happen so quickly.

*blinks* ... did you know goldfish have selective memories?

*blinks* ... pretty bird, though.

typist: ... er. sorry about him. ^^;;

*blinks* Well, it's a catfish. They're not much for being scenic. But I don't think they think much. About, well, anything. But especially not despair.

No, I didn't. *smiles*

It is!

Typist: *giggles* It's fine. He's so dear. *pats him* Though Harbert's a bit on the lost side.
