The different characters, their very individual voices and attitudes come across well here. There is a particularly touching and 'real' hesitation to their courtship - the older, more experienced character who has almost thought himself past being able to be beguiled and being lucky enough to meet with mutual attraction and the young dwarf, becoming bolder by the minute, but also gentle and questioning...a charming combination. thanks for sharing.

Thank you, so much! Coming from you, that's enough to make a bug giddy!

Injecting a little reality, so to speak, into high fantasy is fun. Especially when there's angst involved . . . sweet, sweet angst. . . .

You make what I did sound so much better than it actually is. You're very kind and gracious, lol. Thank you for reading and commenting :)

I love the uncertainty and hesitation before they get on the same page. Nicely written.

Thank you! I love comedies of errors, even when it's not so much with the comedy. I love that they're, sorta, talking at cross purposes, when BOfur finally cuts the shit and says what's on his mind.

Ye gods, they're fun to write :D

There's something very intimate in Kili seeing Bofur with his hair unbound like that-as intimate as it would be for Bofur to braid Kili's hair. The way Kili reassured Bofur that he wasn't too old to wear his hair undone was sweet ( ... )

GET OUT OF MY MIND!!!!!

That's literally, totally what I had planned for a future fic! Only it was Kili braiding Bofur's hair. But I think I like yours better!

The way Kili reassured Bofur that he wasn't too old to wear his hair undone was sweet.

Totally what I was going for, lol. I'm glad it worked.

This is a wonderful, delicate approach towards each other. I think once Kili gets a little experience that Bofur is going to have his hands full. :D

As we can see in “Lofty,” lol.Once he realizes just how fun sex is likely to be, he's gonna really be after Bofur for it. Bofur's resolve is going to be tried.

Bofur seems so wistful about wanting to court Kili properly, it's tender and a bit painful. It's a reminder of both their class and age differences that I doubt Kili thinks about, but which are likely to be brought up by concerned parties, because dwarves are definitely proud of their ( ... )

I was thinking about their discussion over their hair-braiding/catching and being caught discussion. Bofur literally letting his hair down makes him vulnerable. He's showing his concerns over the age difference and maybe his looks (what with the bits of silver in his hair, and it being "too coarse"). So I think a matching vulnerability from Kili would be appealing, even if it's just letting him put in a couple of tiny braids and wearing it for a day to show that yes, he's been caught. A way to show the others that yes, it's more serious than they'd thought, without having to talk about it.

Now I'm getting thoughtful face over dwarf hair art.

YES! Bofur thinks that Kili is out of his league in every way: looks, class, age-it makes me wibble to think that Bofur's got, well, not a low opinion of himself, but one that could do with a little bolstering.

I'm totally stealing your idea, here. I mean my idea :D

Now I'm getting thoughtful face over dwarf hair art. You make art? OMG, if you make art, and ever get inspired to make a piece related to Bofur/Kili and hair-braiding, I will fall ( ... )

I really like the quiet sincerity from Bofur, and the gentle way they come together. It's lovely.

Thank you so much--I like the idea of Bofur having a very serious, honorable side where Kili is concerned. He is, at heart, a gentleman. At least whilst courting :)
