There's something very intimate in Kili seeing Bofur with his hair unbound like that-as intimate as it would be for Bofur to braid Kili's hair.

GET OUT OF MY MIND!!!!!

That's literally, totally what I had planned for a future fic! Only it was Kili braiding Bofur's hair. But I think I like yours better!

The way Kili reassured Bofur that he wasn't too old to wear his hair undone was sweet.

Totally what I was going for, lol. I'm glad it worked.

This is a wonderful, delicate approach towards each other. I think once Kili gets a little experience that Bofur is going to have his hands full. :D

As we can see in “Lofty,” lol.Once he realizes just how fun sex is likely to be, he's gonna really be after Bofur for it. Bofur's resolve is going to be tried.

Bofur seems so wistful about wanting to court Kili properly, it's tender and a bit painful. It's a reminder of both their class and age differences that I doubt Kili thinks about, but which are likely to be brought up by concerned parties, because dwarves are definitely proud of their lineages.

OMG, YES! You have to stop living inside my skull. It's not fit for company in there.

Though I think the concerned parties won't, at first, realize just how serious Bofur and Kili are. Right now, the other think it's all just a bit of fun,

I like the part where Bofur says wonderingly how "lovely and fair" Kili is, and it just aggravates Kili. He's no doubt heard that a lot, along with insults because of same;

Kili's a pretty, pretty boy, and I don't imagine that's won him a lot of friends over the course of his life. He's likely been underappreciated and underestimated. I think this quest is the first real chance he's been given to prove himself.

but he hasn't yet learned the power his looks can give him over people, for good or bad, nor truly suffered because of them.

I doubt he'll ever truly embrace using his looks to gain power over people. Even if he could be made to believe there's power a that a is there for beautiful young men to wield. He's Thorin's nephew, and would consider himself honor bound not to do anything so scurrilous as manipulate people with his looks.

Unless that person is Bofur, of course :D

He'll learn to appreciate hearing it from his lover, though, who likes looking at him but doesn't love him because of that.

Bofur does, indeed, love the whole package. Especially Kili's earnestness, guilelessness, and impetuosity.

I saw the movie again today, and appreciated Bofur's dimples all over again, lol.

Argh, I'm currently too broke to see it again. But I want to. It'd be my third time. Maybe by this Saturday. . . .

I was thinking about their discussion over their hair-braiding/catching and being caught discussion. Bofur literally letting his hair down makes him vulnerable. He's showing his concerns over the age difference and maybe his looks (what with the bits of silver in his hair, and it being "too coarse"). So I think a matching vulnerability from Kili would be appealing, even if it's just letting him put in a couple of tiny braids and wearing it for a day to show that yes, he's been caught. A way to show the others that yes, it's more serious than they'd thought, without having to talk about it.

Now I'm getting thoughtful face over dwarf hair art.

YES! Bofur thinks that Kili is out of his league in every way: looks, class, age-it makes me wibble to think that Bofur's got, well, not a low opinion of himself, but one that could do with a little bolstering.

I'm totally stealing your idea, here. I mean my idea :D

You make art? OMG, if you make art, and ever get inspired to make a piece related to Bofur/Kili and hair-braiding, I will fall at your feet and weep. WEEP!

Sorry, I don't make art. I just meant the way the dwarfs do their hair, beards and mustaches is such a cultural thing, it's almost an art-I was wondering if it's some kind of code. Who's single/married/widowed/looking/not looking; who's the eldest son of how many siblings, or an only child; what their profession is, etc. How many braids would mean what? Say 3 braids means you're available; but 3 braids by each temple means you're available for a fun time only, and 3 clasped to the back of your head means you're available for marriage. You'd have to put in beads or metalwork to signal which gender you want, too.

Or do the dwarves in question just get up each day and think, what the hell, Imma have an updo today, get out the beeswax and go to town?

NO, I DON'T THINK ABOUT THIS STUFF A LOT. REALLY.

I think Bofur is probably still suffering from the fact his lover left him for someone else. That's got to hurt, even if they'd drifted apart-not being enough.
