[Prologue] [1] [2] [3] "This is fucking ridiculous..." Bam muttered to Jess, throwing his head back against the headrest and sighing.
"It's necessary," Jess argued back, not even turning his head to look at his brother.
Bam snorted. "Necessary? It's a death wish, and everyone knows it."
The seat was annoyingly uncomfortable beneath him; too much padding and far too squishy, his knees cramped painfully between his own seat and the one in front of him. He couldn't help his constant fidgeting. He had always had trouble with being able to sit still, and being cooped up in a plane for hours was certainly not something he enjoyed.
None of the pack was particularly happy about the arrangement. They were half-wolf -- flying over large expanses of sea was unsettling, to say the least. There was an elderly woman in the seat in front of Bam, and she was continuously turning around to glare at him for the way his legs dug into her seat, or his choice of language, or the fact that he was constantly complaining. Jess had to stifle his laughter every time her pointy face came back into view, and after half an hour, Bam was fed up.
"I mean honestly though; how did he even manage to convince everyone to go there?" Bam hissed, shifting in his seat and cursing when his leg started to cramp.
"The humans would never expect us to relocate there, that's why." Jess explained with a roll of his eyes for the third time.
"So we'd rather risk our lives than have a couple of humans spot us? It's not like they suspect anything anyway. So what if they see a dog running around one day? Who's going to care?"
Jess laughed, shaking his head and closing his eyes. "End of discussion, Bam. We're going to Helsinki, and you're already on the plane. Time to start dealing with it."
Turning his head to look out the window, his brother made it very clear that the conversation was over, and Bam groaned, slouching in his seat further.
Going to Helsinki was surely the stupidest idea his father had ever had. They weren't even under threat; not really. There were a few humans who suspected their existence, and had fashioned long and detailed stories about their constant war with the blood-suckers, but nobody had ever gotten it exact. Phil Margera was convinced that moving to Helsinki would keep his pack safe from the humans... Bam thought it was the worst idea his father had ever had.
Keep them hidden from the humans, yes...But what of the blood-suckers themselves?

"Bam, don't go wandering off, please."
April was staring at him, her eyes pleading. Bam gave a non-committal shrug and she sighed, shaking her head and moving away to help her husband organise the rest of the pack. They had only been in the new location a few hours; a nice little forest that Phil assured them all was as far away from the vampires as they could get.
Bam sat on a tree stump, Jess hovering beside him, having been appointed to the dreary task of making sure that Bam didn't run away. Bam scowled up at him. He wasn't a baby, he didn't need to be looked after constantly.
"Jess, you can't tell me that you like babysitting me."
Jess raised one eyebrow. "Nope, can't say I do. But, Dad'll have my head if you disappear again."
Bam muttered something that sounded awfully like fuck what he thinks, before he was back to staring at the ground, wracking his brain for anything that could make Jess leave him alone. He was itching to go exploring. He was in an entirely new country, and he wasn't even allowed to move an inch. He wanted to explore, wanted to check out his new surroundings, smell the fresh air... He had been cooped up in a plane for far longer than any person -- or wolf -- should have to, and he wanted nothing more than to go running.
"Bam! Jess!" Phil's voice cut through the air and Bam's head snapped up, his eyes trained on Jess.
"C'mon then," Jess groaned, moving off in the direction that the voice had come from.
Bam grinned, spying his chance. He stood up, unlacing his sneakers and pulling them off his feet. He hid them as best he could behind a shrub and immediately took off. It didn't take long before the wind through his hair was working its usual calming magic, and he felt the change taking over him. His skin itched and tingled, and before long, he was running on four legs, the scenery flying past him.
He grew tired eventually, spying a small stream and collapsing beside it, slowly transforming back. He didn't mind the fact that changing back left him without clothes -- it's not like there was anyone here to see him until the pack came looking for him, and even then, they were all so used to seeing each other naked that nobody cared in the slightest.
The grass was cool beneath his heated skin as he lay there, reaching a hand out to drag through the water. His eyes were closed, letting the relief wash over him and ignoring the fact that his father was probably furious with him by now. He was happy, just laying there, the gentle breeze over his body and the water running through his fingertips.
"Dog," the word was hissed bitterly from behind him, and Bam shot up to a sitting position, his eyes darting around and resting on the figure of the intruder. His senses flared, his nose immediately filled with a sickeningly sweet and somehow bitter scent that made his toes curl. A low growl emitted from his throat and he felt his skin prickling again. It would take a tremendous effort to change again -- his body was already tired from the first one and then the run, but Bam wasn't about to be left defenceless, and the scent in his nose wasn't about to let him stay human. He had an undying urge to transform, to turn into a wolf and lunge forward, tear the throat out of the person standing before him, but he held back.
"So you have come," the blood-sucker whispered, and Bam felt his senses bristling, another snarl working its way out of his lips.
"You're going to get yourself killed, dog."
Bam was all ready to fight, human or not, when the figure smirked at him, suddenly turning on his heel and walking away at a pace faster than Bam would have thought. He continued to stand there, hands clenched and teeth grinding.
Moving to Helsinki was definitely a bad idea.
