“God I’m hungry,” Bam whined as he and Ville walked back to the apartment.

Ville smiled “I’m going to guess that your first experimentation went well.”

“I saw my future,” Bam said as he tried his best to focus on the conversation with his ever growing hunger and the feeling of still being as high as a kite.

“Really? And what is in store for you my dear Bam?” Ville asked.

“I don’t really know it wasn’t really straight forward ya know,” Bam said as he began to laugh and lean up against the man for support.

“I saw you though, and Mary so I spose you’ll be in my future too,” the teen said as they finally made it back to the apartment building.

“Well that’s good,” Ville said as he helped the boy up the flights of stairs to the apartment.

“I’m good,” Bam said as he managed to get away from Ville and he tried to get up the steps by himself.

He felt the world begin to tilt slightly and as he looked down at the steps to see that they seemed to be fading in and out. Ville reached out and grabbed the boy quickly as Bam slipped and almost fell down the stairs.

Bam began to laugh hysterically and Ville could only smile at how all of the boy’s trouble with his mother had disappeared for the time being.

“Come on Bambam,” Ville said as he carefully scooped the laughing boy into his arms and began to carry him the rest of the way.

“Ville I’m really hungry,” Bam whined as the man sat him on the couch.

“Alright I’ll fix you some soup,” Ville said as he headed off toward the kitchen.

A few minutes later and Ville came back into the room to see Bam spacing out exactly where he had left him.

“Here ya go Bammie, this should help with your munchies,” Ville said as he offered Bam the bowl.

Bam began to laugh “Munchies is a weird word.”

Ville couldn’t help but laugh as well, “I know Bam but you need to eat this.”

The teen took the bowl “You know what else is a weird word?” he asked.

Ville shook his head no and Bam began to laugh again before regaining his composure and saying “Llama.”

Bam burst into a fit of giggles and Ville shook his head and smiled “Alright Bam eat.”

“Yes mom,” Bam said through his giggles. Suddenly Bam realized what he had said and he became silent, staring at his soup sadly.

“It’ll be alright Bam, I promise,” Ville said softly.

The teen only nodded his head as he began to eat the vegetable soup.

“So are you and Mary Jane together?” Bam asked to break the silence.

“Me and Mary, no never, she’s just a good friend,” Ville said.

Bam felt better at this piece of information and the knot in his stomach from before began to untie itself.

“So where are you from?” Bam asked as he finished the soup and set the bowl aside.

Ville sighed “A country in Europe called Finland.”

“That’s like up next to Russia right?” Bam said.

The man was impressed, hardly anyone knew that “Yes that’s right.”

“Well why did you come to San Francisco?”

“I needed to get out of Helsinki, see the world ya know. I’ve been here about a year, before then I was more of a drifter than anything. I was trying to look for a place I could label as freedom,” Ville said “But one night I was on a bus on its way to San Francisco from Los Angeles, I had taken some LSD and that’s when I had my epiphany. I figured out that freedom wasn’t a place and it never could be, freedom is a state of mind and no matter where you are in the world if you’re free in your mind then you’re free everywhere.”

Bam nodded his head to show the Finn that he was following what he was saying before Ville continued “Anyway when I got here I figured I should settle down and stop looking for something I’d never find the way I had been wanting to. I didn’t have that much money and when I went in to get some clothes, I met Mary Jane and she basically took me in until I had enough money to get a place of my own.”

It was quiet for a moment before Ville said “Well, what’s your story?”

Bam sighed “I’m from a little town in Pennsylvania called West Chester. I’m the youngest son of two, my mom’s a religious nut and wants me to become a priest or something stupid like that. My dads cool, he just wants me to be happy and to stay out of trouble. I have a brother named Jess who ran away to here about a year and a half ago, and I decided to run away too before I killed myself.”

Ville quirked an eyebrow “Wow your family’s dysfunctional.”

Bam chuckled “Tell me about it.”

“Tell me about this brother of yours, I think I might have met him once,” Ville said and Bam’s eyes light up.
