Kurenai was not looking forward to this. At all. She and Tsunade had worked out a perfectly respectable, reasonable, plausible cast listing. She'd written it out herself, all ready to announce tonight. Naturally, some auditionees would be disappointed; that was only natural. All in all, though, they'd made the right choices, and that piece of

(It would have been better if it'd been beer, but no such luck.)
As Kurenai made her way to the stage, he perked up slightly, snagging a seat so he could watch the proceedings. He'd almost forgotten that the parts for the play were supposed to be announced tonight, having not auditioned for a part. "Who d'ya think's gettin' what?" he asked the person next to him, blue eyes trained curiously on the oddly apprehensive-looking teacher as she mounted the steps to the stage and began her announcement.
He was only really paying attention to the names as they got called, rather than what they were called for, and was so caught up in overly-enthusiastic applause for Hinata that one of his ( ... )

Fuck, he was kinda nervous. He'd gotten used to being on stage over the past couple of months, but the kinds of crowds that Cold Hard Bitch played to in seedy pubs and bars were a completely different dynamic than the sort that would be present for the polished nights of the play. He was pretty certain he'd nailed his audition, sure. The fact remained that he was only a first-year student in a school for performing arts, and while Kiba thought that he was pretty damn awesome, there could be more experienced students vying for the same part.
Hell, they probably deserved it more, anyway.
He jounced in his seat, probably looking like he was busting for the bathroom but not particularly caring. C'monc'monc'mooooooon...! Finally, finally Kurenai ( ... )

Finally she disentangled herself from her table, straightened her shoulders and glided towards the stage, face completely composed with the quiet pride that was expected for such a situation. She’d talk to Kurenai afterwards, there was no point to making a scene now. She winked at Zaku as she took her designated place beside him in the lineup and forced herself to focus on Kurenai’s continuing announcements rather than her racing thoughts. She really did not want to spend the next few weeks pretending to be Zaku’s lover for a few hours today, she didn’t want to learn to dance with him, she didn’t want to deal with the pretend death of her pretend lover in front of a very real audience. Her heart was throbbing, tripping and flip flopping in her chest as she ignored it and stood straight, forcing a smile and then pretending to keep from laughing when Anko was pushed onto the stage beside her.
But then Kiba was called as Tony and Temari was washed with real happiness for a second, finally casting that made sense! Temari applauded and ( ... )

"Rosalia, Sakura Haruno."
Oh my God. Had she just gotten a part, an actual part... with singing and dancing and being on a stage with hundreds of people watching her.... She'd even confirmed with Haku, (who had become her sorta-date for the evening)in case she was imagining that she heard her name. Sakura walked up to stand with the other cast members, unsure if she was feeling nauseous because she was very excited, or very nervous. Probably a combination of both ( ... )

And so the name that preceded his drew a complete blank. Just the mere fact that his name had been called at all was a bit of a shock, though. It wasn't exactly a pleasant surprise, either. What the fuck? He hadn't auditioned for these damn parts, so there wasn't any reason he should be getting the part of Bernard, or whoever he was ( ... )
