I guess I'll go first with a brief comment on how I discovered KAT-TUN. It was either the end of 2003/beginning of 2004 while living in California and hanging out at my neighbor's house and they were watching videos and it turned out to be old episodes of Shounen Club. And I mean old since these were when it used to be 30 minutes and they had the Club News section. KAT-TUN were on and performing (pretty sure the song was "Heartbreak Club") and I was strangely fascinated by the outfits and everything else so I watched some more videos and before I knew it 3-4 hours had passed. And that's how I happily and willingly gave my soul to KAT-TUN.
Two days later my neighbors stopped by and gave me my own copies of the videos. Still have them packed away for safe keeping. ♥
We had a lot of Asian neighbors back in California, which sadly I was an idiot who never took advantage of having all them teach me their languages. D: These particular neighbors were from Japan and they used to get monthly care packages from their family back in Japan. Luckily in those packages was Shounen Club for their daughters. They liked KAT-TUN, but were bigger fans of 4 Tops.
I did! He was the one who attracted me from the start and then it was Junno who I started to like a lot, and then Ueda and Maru. I liked Akame too, but I mostly watched for T-TUN at first. But Akame grew on me and I've come to love them so much, as you know. :). But I think I'll always be a bit more of a T-TUN fangirl at heart.
I'm so looking forward to hearing about everybody else!
Okay, me... It was about April 2008, after a bit of running into dead ends. I watched Gokusen I in Jan/Feb, and liked that a lot more than I wanted to admit to my mature and sensible self, and when it was over, I tried to find out more about Matsujun. So I found Arashi, and tried their music, and didn't like it, and that was that for a few weeks. I tried Kimi wa Petto (hmmm) and Bambino (argh) and Hana Yori Dango (WTF)... and then finally I gave in and watched Gokusen II even though Matsujun wasn't in it.
Hayato and Ryuu had me from about 10 minutes in. (Yes, yes, I know Ryuu doesn't appear until much later. I can read subtext, mkay?) After episode 2, I checked those two guys, and sure enough, there was another band, and this time I liked their music, so I downloaded Kaizokuban, and that was, as they say, it.
At the end of 2004 I had just started to read the manga "Kimi wa Petto" when a friend linked to the drama version of it. I watched that, liked it a lot and wanted to find out more about MatsuJun. I found Arashi, liked them a lot and started to watch lots of stuff. Watched more dorama and noticed Takki and through him KAT-TUN. In 6 month I went from being an Arashi fangirl to a Takki fangirl to a KAT-TUN fangirl and then stayed being that. :D But I am also a general Johnny's fangirl who loves Sport Days and Countdowns and group collaborations.
I found Arashi first, and left them. Once I watched Gokusen 1, tracked down MatsuJun, discovered he was in a band, listened to a few songs and decided they weren't for me. I now actually like some of their stuff, but it's not like with KAT-TUN, where I like about 95% of the songs. Arashi it's more like 15%.
I love all of Arashi shows and their group dynamics. They are just so much fun. Only their music doesn't quite cut it for me, just like you. But I feel that had I seen them first, I would be totally blinded and will frown upon these younger groups (KT) who are trying to be sexy. Lol. I would probably prefer the Ohmiya type of chemistry more than the Akame one then, which would be a shame.
Hmm...I don't recall exactly when, but prior to March 2007, I'd seen Kame in Nobuta, and subsequently watched him with Jin in Gokusen 2 - not because I knew who they were, but because I liked watching school dramas. It did vaguely register with me that they were in a band, and I think I may even have watched the Real Face PV, but it didn't get me until March when matchynishi lured me in with one of her RF icons, with hot, twirly Kame.
Matchy then proceeded to picspam me with Pinky and Akame-in-bed pictures, and about a million other good things, and I think by the end of the post I'd switched favourites from Kame to Jin. Fell in love with their music, though I could only identify 3 out of 6 members at the time, and went and ordered pretty much everything I could think of from CD Japan. The rest is very happy history. ^_^

Yes. :-) I got Jin, Kame and Koki (courtesy of the lack of hair. I was better with Junno when they were standing up and I could identify him by height. The other two... took a while. And by now I can tell their voices apart on first listen.
I am Solo's fault.jo_lasalleAugust 5 2010, 18:57:52 UTC
Since I don't want to be left out, I'm going to comment on my own post... but since it's a mod post, I can comment as a regular citizen, right? Right?
ANYWAY. Once upon a time, in early 2008, solo____ sent me an interesting clip I might be interested in watching, which was the Kaizokuban encore, which... okay, if you've never seen any Johnny's bands, I CAN'T BE BLAMED FOR BEING STUNNED INTO WEIRDED OUT SILENCE OKAY? So, I kind of thought this wasn't for me. Then, a while later, I found myself craving some pretty boyslash, followed some delicious tags of Solo's, and then it was basically Soft Skin Boys + Real Face PV + Kame and the fucking OTTERS = doom.

If I hadn't already known of KAT-TUN before Gokusen 2, I would have definitely been sucked in that way by both Jin and Kame. :)

I was about to reply "I never have either!" - but then I remembered that I watched Gokusen 1. Uh...
I'll just blame it on my advanced age. ;-)

How far we've come! But I still can't do it by earlobe, or fingertips, or any other bodyparts. I am not hardcore enough. :-(

I can do bodyparts (that sounds morbid) for some people... but not for all.
