I guess I'll go first with a brief comment on how I discovered KAT-TUN. It was either the end of 2003/beginning of 2004 while living in California and hanging out at my neighbor's house and they were watching videos and it turned out to be old episodes of Shounen Club. And I mean old since these were when it used to be 30 minutes and they had the Club News section. KAT-TUN were on and performing (pretty sure the song was "Heartbreak Club") and I was strangely fascinated by the outfits and everything else so I watched some more videos and before I knew it 3-4 hours had passed. And that's how I happily and willingly gave my soul to KAT-TUN.
Two days later my neighbors stopped by and gave me my own copies of the videos. Still have them packed away for safe keeping. ♥
We had a lot of Asian neighbors back in California, which sadly I was an idiot who never took advantage of having all them teach me their languages. D: These particular neighbors were from Japan and they used to get monthly care packages from their family back in Japan. Luckily in those packages was Shounen Club for their daughters. They liked KAT-TUN, but were bigger fans of 4 Tops.
I did! He was the one who attracted me from the start and then it was Junno who I started to like a lot, and then Ueda and Maru. I liked Akame too, but I mostly watched for T-TUN at first. But Akame grew on me and I've come to love them so much, as you know. :). But I think I'll always be a bit more of a T-TUN fangirl at heart.
I have been, but it wasn't until a couple of years ago that I became an active fan. I mostly just lurked on the fringes of fandom.
It's true that Kame and Jin get/have a lot more attention and fans, but I think that's because a lot of the international fandom discovered KAT-TUN through those 2 and Gokusen and NwP. But it seems as if Ueda and Maru are starting to get a lot more fans, and hopefully Koki and Junno will as well. :)
JE definitely has magical powers and probably invaded your dreams with Kame. :D
It was! And I lived in California where anything goes, and had seen some pretty strange outfits in San Fransisco and L.A., and yet these had me so fascinated I sat there for hours watching. That's the power of JE. XD
Man, I feel like the opposite, I watched Keep the Faith and LAUGHED AND LAUGHED AND LAUGHED AND RIDICULED AND LAUGHED SOME MORE at their outfits. And now when my friends are like WHAT ARE THEY WEARING I take it all in stride...and I'm just like "I'VE SEEN WORSE. THEY MAKE SEQUINS WORK FOR THEM, OKAY???" JE gave me a warped sense of style >>
If I wasn't living in California at the time my reaction would have been the same as yours. Plus I didn't want to insult the people by laughing in front of them.
But believe me, I've laughed plenty since then. Kame's DUES outfit. No more needs to be said. XD

The outfits and everything else can be dangerously mesmerizing!! Sounds like your neighbors were pretty wily. ;-)
