Your stories, I feel, have a depth to them that's matched by their awareness of a bigger world. I love this story, and the relationship between Messi and Aguero is beautifully written.
This has a really lovely quiet progression with it, slowly peeling the young men out of the boys. I like how you build up Messi's past and even throw in a few hints to his future, with the Cesc/cantera references and then Messi playing as Ronnie in ProEvo (I had to stop and swallow right there). And they come off as properly young--not childish or too-smart mini-adults, but real teenagers.
It's been so weird and exciting for me watching these two guys progress to what they are today, and I wanted so much to try and convey some of that. And that balance between making the characters sound too old or too young is so difficult to strike, so I'm glad it worked. :D
it's ridiculous how I can love all the things you write, even when I mostly don't know the characters. this was wonderful. (coincidentally, I was watching Argentina v Netherlands when I read this. *g*)
Thank you so much for giving my fics a chance despite not knowing the characters, I really appreciate it. (Good thing they came through, I was so worried. *g*)
Beautiful as always, Lee. It's such a pressure to read your writing, because your knowledge of your subjects is so encyclopedic and you're so fond of them; all of that comes through, in spades. Leo's difference facets are so vivid and totally convincing, and it's really quite joyous to share Kun's POV.
It's like the difference between two people having a conversation in the same language and trying to guess what the other person's saying through gestures. He and Leo aren't quite fluent yet, but they could be, he just knows it.
This, by itself, really tells the story, doesn't it? Gorgeous.
Thank you so much for this, and for sharing what you know with us so beautifully.
At times like these, I'm glad that I get so obsessive about these things. *g*
It was difficult trying to articulate their relationship in a way that wouldn't sound heavy-handed or fake, especially in Kun's POV, so I'm glad it came through.
