I have so many things to say that I'm going to number them:
1) I absolutely loved this journey. By the 2nd or 3rd match, I was actually following all the substitutions made and who scored what goal at which minute :)
2) So there was really an interview that Cesc appeared in the middle of?
3) This was perfect timing, as I just watched most of them today in the Argentina v. Netherlands match :)
4) Aguero used to be a sub? Wow, he's now almost always a starter in the Olympics. But poor thing, couldn't finish chances today ♥ (in the Neth. match)
5) The Brazilians are not easy opponents, never will be Yes, and Messi and Ronaldinho are going to face each other on Tuesday...
1. I was grasping for a structure for so long until I thought of using the games themselves. Glad it worked! 2. Yeah, there was. It was mentioned in the text of an interview with Leo that he's being really cagey about tactics, maybe because Cesc's just striding up, and then the article talks about Cesc wishing Leo happy birthday. :D 3. It's strange watching these guys grow, isn't it? So many of them have come so far since 2005. 4. Kun was so young back then, barely 17, it was amazing that he got to go to the tournament at all. But he's come a long way since then, and it's just a pity that he's not on the best of form right now. 5. Great drama, no doubt, especially since those two are such great friends. *g*
1. Yeah, it absolutely worked :D I did that last year with a story about the Azzurri's WC 2006 adventure :) 2. LOL oh, nice! 3. I didn't even know most of them in 2005! 4. There's still time...he might find his form :D
5. I hope I can watch it. IDK what time it's going to be on, though.
I was a bit wary about being too heavy-handed about anything, because these guys are both so young still, even if they've done so much since 2005. It's hard to know what the future will hold, but hopefully they'll at least have each other's support though it. [For example, Leo's trying to help Kun right now because he's really stressed and not playing all that well. Hopefully it will make a difference.]
I could circle the whole fic, but this one line made me smile the hardest. I love your dialogue, there are no wasted words, they're dripping in character. And the way you shifted styles for the POV changes between Messi, Kun, and even the elderly man in the intro. Beautiful storytelling, it felt very special to watch it unfold.
The way you write characters, makes it really hard not to fall in love with them in the course of reading. I just want to flail all over your boys right now. And watch them grow and develop more.
(I'd never seen the first pic before! OMG! 2005 U20 baby Champions! Such. Love.)
Pssst. I love the long author's notes. Never stop.
Even 17 years old, Kun's brain would totally go there. *g* It was weird writing the POV switches, because Kun and Leo are so different in a lot of ways.
They're lovable guys on their own, really, without my embellishments. And fingers crossed they're both going to go even further. :D
(They were the two babies of that team, and all the celebration pics are just incredibly adorable.)
Good to hear! I live in fear of how long the notes for my Pep/Luis fic will end up being.
Aww I really love this!! I also read the one you wrote in the same verse.. thanks a lot! You really evoked a lot of complexity, and the atmosphere just beautifully :)
