Title: The Climb (9/9)
Author: 5musketeer
Rating: PG-13
Spoilers: Season #1
Word Count: this part: 824. Total: 10K.
Summary: the adventures and misadventures of Rachel Berry dealing with one Quinn Fabray.
Pairing: Rachel/Quinn.
Note: all mistakes are mine.
Another note: The song in this chapter is Mandy Moore's 'Only Hope', 'cause it seems I can't write Glee without using music one way or another or this story without cloying songs.

Also a shout to mjacton and sanetwin16 who took the time to review every chapter and sometimes gave me constructive criticism, you're great. =)

I'm happy I've been able to finish my, technically, first fanfic. Thank you all for reading :)

"You're prone to losing your girlfriend in the hallways," Kurt deadpanned.

"You can't blame Quinn," pointed Mercedes in a helpful manner; "Rachel is really small."

"Have or haven't you seen Rachel" said the aforementioned, fed up with all the teasing.

"We haven't."

"For being the Gossip Queens of McKinley you're not very useful."

"We are all about the information, like the Perez Hilton of McKinley, not a find-Munchkin-size-divas version of Google maps."

Quinn rolled her eyes exaggeratedly while the fabulous duo snickered at her frustration, and turned on her heels to continue her quest. Knowing Rachel, she probably had felt the irresistible urge to sing, only God knew why. And if she wasn't in the choir room...

Quinn entered the auditorium to the sound of a piano and an angelic voice.

"Sing to me the song of the stars, of your galaxy dancing and laughing and laughing again."

There she was, a petite form with a voice much bigger than her -and this one was a new thing - playing the piano under the bright lights.

Quinn approached tiptoeing up the stairs, the poster child of stealth, not that she needed to be; when Rachel was absorbed in her music the world around her ceased to exist.

"When it feels like my dream is so far, sing to me of the plans that you have for me over again."

When she was near enough she let her arms sneak around the singer's neck and brought her back towards her chest.

"What's with you and cheesy songs?" she whispered in the girl's ear.

"Said the one with a high appreciation for eighty rock ballads," she grumbled trying unsuccessfully to suppress a shiver, hands suddenly motionless over the keys.

"Touché." Quinn observed how Rachel traced delicately the ivory pieces with her fingertips and she felt stupid about being a little jealous of an instrument.

"I didn't know you played the piano."

"I've always tried to extend my musical knowledge within the extent of my abilities which, as you already know, are incredibly large. Singing is my forte but playing an instrument is a perfect complement to it. I judged appropriated to have some notions of piano when I was seven."

Of course, thought Quinn.

"Nobody knows," continued Rachel with a hint of regret. "It's not like I'm very good at it."

The blonde smiled against the other girl's neck.

"And the star of New Directions can't be seen doing anything but the best on the stage, right?"

Rachel turned in her arms.

"You know me well."

"I try to." Quinn kissed her on the nose.

They only had been dating for a month so we could say they were still getting to know each other but Quinn had covered a lot of ground in that short span of time. Years of pursuing the diva to torment her had, ironically, given her an inside of Rachel's personality beyond the surface of the overachiever, petulant and optimistic girl once she decided to take a second look. Quinn had also removed a ton of barriers and thank to that, she was gaining Rachel's heart and trust quickly.

They both had learned that, aside upbringing and physical appearance, they weren't so different. In spite of all their arguments, and apparently, thirty days can hold a lot of arguments; over silly things - what to eat on a date, what to sing on glee club, what skirt length isn't suitable for a dancing number, what not musical movie to see on a Saturday night - or not so silly ones - Quinn's sarcastic nature and Rachel's brutal honesty, each harmful in their own way - they got along quite nicely.

And then there were their making out sessions. Quinn's grin became larger.

"Would you play it again? For me? I like that song" she murmured nuzzling Rachel's nape and eliciting a giggle.

"'kay. Sit with me." Quinn did. "You know, this reminds me of the day you assaulted me. Here, in the auditorium."

"I didn't assault you."

"Yes, you did."

"Cut the nonsense and play," she said sternly but still with a playful smile on her lips.

Rachel muttered something about bossy girlfriends and the connection between lack of patience and the development of gastric ulcers but restarted the song all the same. Somewhat nervous, she struggled during the opening part with the rhythm but recovered with grace just at the beginning of the first verse.

"There's a song that's inside of my soul," Quinn sang softly.

Rachel merely played the notes, eyes divided between Quinn and the keys. She only joined at the end of the second chorus.

"I give you my destiny. I'm giving you all of me. I want your symphony, singing in all that I am."

Quinn locked eyes with her girlfriend then, quickly losing herself in the rich and vibrant brown eyes. In that moment she realized she would never deny she was in love with Rachel if someone felt like asking her. Certainly, it wasn't the day she was going to announce it to her family and all Lima but she could tell the other glee members... starting with Rachel.
