Happy Day!!

Jan 30, 2008 12:35

Yay for today! I just got back from having a sinfully decadent brownie with one of my favorite people. That alone is enough to start a day out right. But then I checked my e-mail, and Greenpeace says they want to schedule me for a telephone interview asap (meaning next Wednesday or Thursday). This is one of my top-choice jobs. Woot ( Read more... )

When you're right you're right. You Ryan and I should hit the Gohan Time again! What sort of times are you available?

Whoo! That would be rad if you got that job. And then you and Nicole in the same area again? Double rad!

Anyway, I am terrible at salary negotiations, but if it's non-profit, I would guess somewhere around the 40k area. But really, I have no idea.

I checked out the average salary for a web editor in San Francisco - $67.5k (median). At the 10th percentile, it was still at $61k. I still don't know what I'll ask for (if they bring it up), but that at least gives me a reference point. A lot of non-profit jobs are $10-20k less, so your $40ish estimate might be spot on. Go you. :)

I would look at cost of living and maybe go a couple thousand over that, if that much. Greenpeace is kindof big though, so they may offer more than I would expect.

I don't know what the standard COL is, but $45k there is the equivalent of just over $25k here. Then again, I had a friend who made $7/hr in San Francisco for a while. Not that I'd move for $7/ hr. :)

Housing prices are the major factor dakini_bones January 31 2008, 06:00:34 UTC
Sharing a non-dangerous, non-grotty apartment is going to set you back about $1000 a month maybe? Depends on where you need to live. Be careful some 'hoods are really dangerous. Check Craigs list for SF. To live, I'd say about 60K, and thats not a lux lifestyle ( ... )

I know, housing in San Fran is crazy-expensive. I was doing cost of living comparisons - ~40k in San Fran = $25k here. Most of that is a difference in the cost of housing. As to the dangerous neighborhoods thing - I'll have to have people in the area help me out with that one. Can't necessarily trust a rental agency when it's trying to move units. le sigh.
