Grr

So it's nearly 90 degrees out right now, it's already quarter till eight, and my fridge just broke. Lovely.

And just as I finished typing that, it started making running noises. I may not lose all my food after all!

Keep the doors closed as much as possible and use the most perishable stuff first. The most efficient function of the refridgerator is the the insulation to keep the cold in and the heat out. If you have a freezer, move everything into that when you can.

I went through this a couple times with my mom when the power went out for lovely things like hurricanes. You can make do for a couple days without power if you keep the doors shut and use what you have judiciously.

Thank you for the advice, though my fridge is now apparently working again. I'll keep that in mind if it decides to die more permanently.

I hope you never need to use it. Perhaps it was just cycling down for effcient energy usage? I know some of the newer varieties do that.

I don't think so; it's very much not a new model, and the inside of both the fridge and freezer felt warmer than they should have (which is how I discovered the problem in the first place). But it's working again, so ...meh. If it happens again, I'll mention it to the office. And I should probably go off and check my lease agreement and such to see what their responsibilities are on this.

I'm telling you, the wily cupboard gnomes will steal your food! You will look one day and discover that your pie is no more, and you will know they have struck.
