When she catches him in the bathroom with his sleeve rolled up and the needle jabbed into his vein, it really is the first time in god-knows-how-long, but she doesn’t believe him.

She goes white instead and says in a voice still and terrible and worse than the time they told him his father was never going to come home again, “You promised me.”

He doesn’t realize how empty the mansion is until she’s gone, safe at home with her parents. In her old, little-girl room with its stupid Dark Magician Girl posters and that small mountain of stuffed animals.

He’s an idiot for doing this, and he’s even a bigger idiot when he attempts to go get her back. Kennosuke, who meets him at the door, says politely (but firmly) that she doesn’t want to see him.

Seto knows he’s not a good person because a good person would go home, clean up his act, and send her flowers in apology every damn day.

Seto goes home and shoots himself up till he can’t feel his fucking face.

There’re stuffed animals in his bedroom, too, because she likes them, and they stare at him like she did, and he wants to throw them out or he wants to scream, and in the end, he doesn’t do either, just lets himself drift into that familiar drugged up haze.

Title: Breakdown II
Series: Yu-Gi-Oh!
Theme no.: 25. less remain in one place
Character(s)/Pairing: Seto, Seto/Anzu (implied), Mokuba/Rebecca (implied).
Disclaimer: So very much not mine.
Rating: R for drug use and language.
Notes (if any): A possible (not so happy) future to Foster Care

He decides that he needs a change of scenery, and so he has the staff close up the main house and leaves for the United States’ corporate office.

Rents the smallest high-rise studio he can find because he doesn’t want to think (like he does at the main house) about how lonely places are.

Mokuba calls him from university, that worried tone in his voice making Seto feel guilty, but Seto lies and says that everything is fine, that he needs some time alone, and to say hello to Rebecca for him.

And then he can practically hear Mokuba’s blush in the ensuing silence because Mokuba is astonishingly - for such a forthright kid - incredibly shy when it comes to Rebecca Hawkins.

He knows his split from Anzu must be in all the glossy tabloids his secretary reads when she thinks he isn’t looking, and he wonders if Anzu’s reading them.

They used to read them together, her airy giggles making his chest hurt because he knew that his happiness wouldn’t last.

His chest hurts now, and so when his secretary’s on lunch break, he snorts what he knows to be a potentially lethal concoction of heroin and fentanyl, but hell, he’d always taken a bitterly perverse pleasure in its street name “magic.”

Floats for the rest of the day, and when he comes back to himself (sometime in the early hours of early morning) the first thing he does is stick his fist through the bathroom mirror.
