When Al returned to Amestris, Mei with him, nothing was different from all the times he had come to Resembool with Ed. They arrived at the station, went to Winry's house, where hugs were exchanged, stories told and a dinner eaten.
Ed did not say much, instead he simply gave Al a quick hug and a 'welcome home' greeting, with minimal teasing about Mei. It made Al worried, although Ed had his reasons.
That night, after everyone had gone to bed, and Al beginning to doze off, Ed kicked his leg.
"Ow!" He exclaimed, bolting upright.
"Oh good, you're awake," Ed said.
"What is it, Brother?" He asked.
"Come on, I wanna show you something," Ed said.
"This late?"
"It's worth it, trust me!" Assured Ed, walking to the door. Al stood up, sighing. He knew Ed would continue bothering him until he cooperated.
As they walked outside, He asked, "So, where is it?"
"Back of the house," Ed answered, "Just relax and stop asking questions, Al!"
Al obliged, still wondering why it could not have waited until morning.
When they got to the back of the house, Al did not notice anything. The only differences being taller weeds and an open cardboard box. Ed walked over to it.
"Close your eyes!" He instructed.
Al, increasingly curious, did as he was told.
After a few moments, Ed said, "Okay, open,"
Al opened his eyes to see an adorable kitten looking out of the box at him
"Welcome home, Al,"
