While away (computer-free) for a three-day weekend, I did some thinking about how I use facebook and livejournal. I'm not pleased with how they tend to suck away my time. I use them to tune out of my real space life, and I don't feel quite in control. But I don't want to stop using them entirely, because they serve many good purposes ( Read more... )

ah, yes, the ever present, wow, I'm wasting time on the internet, but I'm actually socializing so it's ok right? It's so neat that you can find out what your long lost buddies are up to with facebook. I guess I'm lucky that I don't know that many LJ people. I only follow a few blogs.

What I need to do is stop doing it at night...like right now. because it keeps me up, but i have no self control.

Yeah, it's neat.. but it's like, I lived without having constant contact with these people for several years. Maybe it would be okay if I didn't check in on all of them every single day.

That constant low level thing is an insidious creeping suck-of-time. And I need my fix or I feel disconnected from what is apparently becoming my virtual self.

Yes, and what is frightening is that I don't think I've ever been without a constant, low-level source of distraction in my day-to-day life.

Ha ha, was it you who recently found Questionable Content? I spend a whole day reading that one when I found it.

See, if you actually ENJOY reading webcomics, then that's fine. The trouble is that I do it, but then I feel guilty about it, and it's a whole big downward spiral...
