[Before heading out for the day's errands, Japan leaves a message on the network.]

Pardon my intrusion, but I find myself curious...

How many of you here work with electronics on a normal basis?

[With that, Japan takes Pochi and his journal and heads out across town. He can be found in the grocery store getting food for the Phantomhive house, ( Read more... )

I have done some minor work with electronics, but my main specialties are in the sciences, unfortunately. [Robert still wonders if he can be of assistance, though.]

What sort of technological expertise do you require?

Ah......well, I am attempting to make a flat screen television for Poland-san, but I cannot seem to find the parts I need to make an adequate LCD screen.

[Surprise - positive surprise - from Robert here.]

Ah, I spoke to Poland quite recently on this very subject. I had actually been quite interested in meeting you as well - how fortuitous that I would stumble across you.

[He sobers in a few seconds, though.] However, I would have no real knowledge on where to obtain liquid display crystals, or anything else of the sort, here. Nothing like that ever seems to surface in the shops.

You spoke to him about it...? [Ah, that's right. Poland said he'd be looking for the materials necessary...]

I am honored that you would wish to meet me.

...But yes, you are right. I've searched many times over for a viable replacement, but I have yet to find one.

Poland informed me of your aptitude for technology, which struck me as fascinating. Seeing as my technological knowledge is admittedly lacking, it is always an honour to speak to an accomplished intellectual in the subject.

The problem is unfortunately compounded by the fact that I have little knowledge on what a "television" is supposed to include. When I explained to Poland that such devices were no longer in use during my time period, he seemed somewhat concerned.

[Wow, what. Someone just... what.] I could not call myself a Japanese man if I were not able to do such things...

...but you say they are no longer in use during your time? Might I ask what you use instead?

... A Japanese man? [Robert sounds confused. He doesn't recognize country names at all.] Is that a title in your universe?

As for what we would use to watch broadcasts instead... most would simply use holovideo projections from a nanocomputer. The majority of homes have easy access to database terminals, and there are public ones for the few who do not.

....It is like a title.

Interesting...Holographic video projections are the way the future goes after all... [THINKING ABOUT THINGS HERE.]

Oh, well, I would not say that all futures would go that way. But the future of Terra did, certainly.

What sort of world are you from then, Japan? Is it another Earth-like multiversion? Most of the hominids I have spoken to here are from one, with the exception of one.

Terra...? It is your world then, yes?

And I am from Earth, yes. I have noticed that not all people here are, however.

Yes, my planet is referred to as Terra. [Robert's voice holds a slight smile.] It is the third planet in the Sol system... and was called "Earth" in its past.

That continues the pattern I have seen for hominids, then... I am most curious as to why there are the occasional exceptions. [He thoughtfully hums a little to himself.]

....[Oh. Japan is trying to wrap his head around that, but he hopes there are at least Nations left. It would suck if he were dead, but...he can hope he's not. Best not to ask.] I see.

Perhaps the phenomenon that draws us here is only able to reach out so far.

[Were Japan ever to ask he would find to his great sadness that nations are indeed gone - as are all geopolitical boundaries.]

I suppose that is much different from your world, then? So far I have yet to discuss much of Terra's geopolitical structure with anybody.

And that would indeed be a reasonable hypothesis, considering the usual targets of the inhabitants of this place. However, I have spoken to those who seem to come from places outside of Earth multiversions...

Yes, it is. I suppose....

How many people? Perhaps it will reveal a pattern in the abductions.

(OOC: Oops. Broke a small tag again. *headdesk* I'm failing at them recently. :|)

[Robert's thoughtful for a few moments.

A certain Sergeant Lightning Farron, as well as one individual I spoke to who seems to hail from a spacefaring world. I didn't get zir name, though.

Everybody else seems to come from some kind of Earth-like multiversion.

................................ [Lightning. Well. Yes. She's not from Earth, but... Best not to say anything.]

It does seem that way, doesn't it.
