  • A week ago Friday (the 24th), A. and I went down to Manassas to the Empty Bowls charity event. It's a fundraising activity wherein a potter donates bowls, restaurants donate food, and they invite contributors. In other words, the charity is on the part of the ceramics people and the restaurant. We just went down, got some really neat bowls, and ( Read more... )

"I need to start inviting newbies and coworkers to the range, more consistently. The more people we bring in to the Gun Culture(tm), the more support gun owners will have, politically. "

I have always done this, and will continue to do so with the people who never really thought about firearms or held ignorant positions.

But those that I have brought out, and those that I have offered to, who voted for Obama, well, fuck them. They can go buy single shot airguns with their FAC just like the people in the UK. They think there should be "common sense" gun regulations, I'll let them have a taste of it. No more range trips with me and free ammo.

I'm not at all pleased with the latest attempts by Metro & TSA -- they don't understand the concept of risk, and they sure don't understand how to protect people, but they are excellent at generating huge quantities of annoyed citizens. Or is this a back-handed way to reduce ridership and thus get a handle on finances? (/sarcasm)

I quit riding metro during the week a couple of years ago, when they solved their loss of revenue (due to parking attendant embezzlement) by making their riders buy farecards and pay for parking with them. After that, I rode only on weekends, when parking was free.

When I wrote Metro to complain about this most recent incursion, I received:
"Thank you for writing to Metro regarding our new Security Inspection Program. The program which will be random, unannounced and focused on explosive detection is aimed to deter terrorist attacks and increase the overall safety of the Metro system. Passengers can expect bag inspections at any Metro facility when circumstances warrant heightened vigilance. However, it should not be assumed that there is a specific threat to the Metro system when we are conducting random bag inspections ( ... )
