Pairing: Ryan and his Danny. :)
Disclaimer: Absolutely love them, but do not own.
AN: My baby comes home tonight! Too bad we're against him! (If I'm honest, I really want him to score at least ONCE on Ryan. ;) In more ways than one, hehe.)
Ryan paced the floor until the carpet was wearing under his feet, worrying his bottom lip with his teeth. He was already in full goalie gear for the game that night, but he wasn’t sure whether or not he really wanted to go out there.
Danny was here. Danny was coming home tonight.
The thought thrilled and depressed him at the same time, and he wasn’t sure if he could stop himself either tackling the cute forward or bursting into tears.
Derek stepped into the room. “You ready yet, Millsy?”
Ryan shook his head. “I don’t think I can do this, Derek.” He dropped heavily onto the bench and put his head in his hands. He’d never wanted to play against Danny.
Derek sat next to him and put an arm around his shoulders. “You can, Ry, and you know you can. You have to. We need you to beat them. He’s made them unstoppable. We’re only a little above them, Ryan, and we need to get back up there in the league.”
Ryan smiled fondly. “He is good, isn’t he...”
Derek laughed. “No question he’s good, but the question is, is he good enough to beat you?”
Ryan smirked. “Not if I can help it.”
Derek punched his arm lightly. “Now that’s the Millsy I know.” He stood up to walk away, but turned before he made it to the door.
“Would you feel better if you talked to him before the game? You know, clear the air? Because you know you guys are going to have to play hard against each other whether you want to or not. Might as well just say it.”
Ryan nodded. “I’d like that, I think.”
Danny was tying and untying his shoe while Martin watched in annoyance. He was nervous as hell and trying to hide it, but that fidgety habit with his shoe gave him away.
The tenth time he did it, Martin stilled his hand with his own. “You’re going to be great, Danny. You know Ryan, you know what moves he’ll make, what saves he values…you’re going to be a huge asset to our team.”
Danny paled. “I don’t know if I can do this, Marty. I mean, it’s Ryan.”
“I didn’t hear you saying that when we played Dru with the Rangers, eh?”
Danny cast his eyes on Martin with a mock-glare. “I don’t recall ever fucking Chris.”
Martin shook his head. “Nonsense, Danny. Just get over all this and get out there and do what you love. You love hockey, you love to play. Just get out there and forget about everything but that.”
Danny’s body shook as he turned his eyes downward. “But…”
“Listen, I’m going to go get him, okay? You guys can talk about this because obviously I’m not getting through.”
Danny couldn’t help the joy that lit his face. “Really?”
Martin chuckled at his eagerness. “Yes, really.”
Ryan fiddled with the straps on his pads as he waited, glancing at the clock every so often. It was five after six. They’d play in about an hour and a half.
The door opened and Martin Biron walked in.
Ryan stood to hug his old friend with a smile. “How’ve you been, Marty?”
Martin shrugged. “Can’t complain. Miss you guys though.”
Ryan laughed. “We miss you too, don’t worry.”
“I hear it’s not as much as you miss some people, though.” Martin winked.
Ryan’s face fell. “No, it’s not.”
“I miss you too, Ryan,” Danny said as he stepped into the room.
Ryan’s head snapped up at the familiar voice and a giant smile split his face. Letting out a tremendous yell, he ran and jumped on his boyfriend, smothering him with kisses.
“Danny!”
Danny laughed, kissing him back just as happily and holding him close. “Hey, baby. You freaking out too, then?”
Ryan nodded, taking Danny’s lips in another, more tender kiss. “Yeah, pretty much.”
Danny tangled his fingers in Ryan’s hair and stroked his head lovingly, placing kisses to his neck. “Well, don’t, okay? You can play as hard as you need to against me and my team and I’ll love you just as much as I did if you were to let us win. More, because I know you playing hard is what you love and if we win, it’s because we’re good.”
Ryan nuzzled Danny’s chest and smiled. “You always know the right thing to say.”
Danny smiled fondly down at him, brushing his lips over his hair. “Guess it comes with loving you.”
Ryan giggled and kissed Danny again. “I love you, too.”
“Will you meet me in the locker room after the game? I want to say hello properly, without all these eyes.” Danny looked pointedly at Martin, who just shrugged.
Ryan nodded. “You know you don’t have to ask, Danny. I’ll always be there, wherever you want.”
“Alright. So I’ll see you then then? Good luck in the game. I know it’ll be near impossible trying to get it past you, but hey, I’ve got some tricks too.”
Ryan smirked. “See if you can get it past me, with or without those tricks. My vote is definitely no.”
They kissed once more, long and slow, before letting go of each other. “See you later,” Ryan whispered as Danny left the room.
Derek came in the room just as Martin left. “A bit calmer now?”
Ryan nodded. “Let’s go kick some Philadelphia ass.” Grabbing his helmet, he and Derek walked to the rink and, donning their gear, skated out onto the ice.
