Katara, Sokka - Siblings, can't live with them, can't live without them

Katara is four and Sokka is five. He’s joking around, but she takes his sarcasm more seriously than him. She keeps herself from crying, but, loosing control of her waterbending, she accidently melts the igloo and she can’t even keep herself dry.

Sokka is seven and thinks he should give Katara a real gift for her sixth birthday. He considers making a spear, but no, she doesn’t use weapons because of her magic water. He knows how much she likes penguin sledding, and knows that even though he can’t tame an otter penguin permanently, he can teach her to tame as many as she’d like. He leaves early - to surprise his sister he leaves before anyone wakes up - and when he comes back in the evening (with more fish caught than he can count) she first hugs him so hard that they both fall to the ground, then finds out she isn’t good enough a waterbender to soak him on purpose and settles for a kick to the shins. Lying there in the snow, Sokka can’t help but think that next time, he would tell his parents of his plan
