Bad things come in threes, right? So this'll be all?

1. Apparently the managers of Everton Hall discovered asbestos in the textured ceilings of our place, so we have to pack up and move to another block of flats. On Sunday. We got notice this afternoon. At least they're not expecting us to do the whole scrub-the-flat-from-top-to-bottom thing before we go. That doesn't remove the worry about how ( Read more... )

anxiety, moving, computery stuff, university

On Number 3: Colleges sometimes make allowances for people who want to graduate who only need that one shiny class to do so. Talk to some people (advisor, professor in charge, whatnot) and see if there's anything that can be done. Politely explain the situation and say that you really want to graduate because it's (a been a long time coming and it's only one class b) are running out of money, c) have worked your butt off, or d) you'll slip LSD into the campus water supply otherwise.

(I don't suggest d.)

:)

My sympathies. Your computers tend to be evil.

Well, if I wait until next semester I could probably find another 300-level course that would let me graduate, but I will have to talk to my course advisor to figure out what the hell I'm going to do and if I'm on track and all. ): Bah, stupid university!

Had a huge moment of panic when I took my computer to the campus shop today and found A GUTTED SHOP, piles of construction materiel and some guy painting the door. I kind of freaked out at him for a bit (possibly with the reedy climbing voice of horror and panic), until he very calmly told me that the shop was still there, they were only refurbishing, and he was actually the on-hand technician until the normal technician gets back from holiday. So I thanked him profusely, left my computer and am waiting for him to call. *sheepish*

*laughs* If he was a tech, then he was also a geek and therefore understood. :-D

1. Asbestos is nasty stuff, so it's good that the managers are being careful. Sucks to have to move though! Could you churn your internet to your new address? Or do you have to move companies to do that? /o\

2. Warranty ftw! \o/

3. Gah! I agree with deadcat_vagrant - ask if you can take it because it's your last class.

1. Well, I've been living in these halls for two years now, so I can only hope lung cancer is slow to form. *facepalm* As for the internet: we wish to God we could change companies, but Telecom has a monopoly on Everton Hall, so we have to stay with their extortionate prices, caps and transfer fees. I will call them this afternoon and check the damage. D:

2. SERIOUSLY. The number of times my computer has gone on the fritz, I would have spent HUNDREDS by now - and it's only a year into my contract!

3. I will talk to the course advisor, but limited entry courses are already being expanded hugely - I was in a limited entry course last year that had a class of sixteen people, and that was twice the usual number. I may end up doing my last course next semester (at least I'll be able to work full time). I'll figure something out.

1. Asbestos is only a problem if you disturb it and then breathe in the dust, so if you weren't drilling holes in the ceiling you should be fine. :)

Well, I did throw a shoe at it once when the people upstairs were being loud, and it knocked a bit free. Ah, well. It'll be right.

Try going to talk to someone about the course-you never know till you try. And if you need any help with the move just let me know. I'm actually free parts of this Saturday and Sunday.

I talked to my course advisor, and found out that I will have to do the final course next semester. However, I will also have to do THREE OTHER COURSES to make up enough points to graduate. I do not look forward to telling my parents this. D:

As for moving... hmmm. I'm going over to Ssar's tonight, for boxes (and also dinner, because she is a queen), and I'll have to figure out how much stuff I'll have when it's all packed up (because a lot of it is also Sas' stuff), so I may send out the bat-signal on Saturday if I need people (and by that, I mean make a post). In the meantime, I'm going to revise my CV and go door to door, begging for any part-time positions availiable.
