The gravel in the bottom is getting a bit nasty and I have a gravel vac I can use, but I was wondering if it would be a bad idea to remove the gravel by hand and rinse it out in the sink. I have about 18 babies in a 10 gallon tank. I put a pregnant female in the tank, she laid her fry but the month old babies ate them all. Since then, I've noticed 3 or so of the babies have a spine that's bent upwards (I'll take a picture if needed). I have a one gallon tank that I picked up on the cheap at Goodwill and used for a couple weeks as an emergency fiddler crab home. The crab is now in a five gallon tank with another fiddler, and they are have a blast playing in the sand and climbing the decorations.

I'm having problems with my new 55 gallon. I posted last week about my nitrogen cycle problems and I have a new theory. Is it possible that the pH is so low that the beneficial bacteria can't survive? I had 2 pieces of driftwood in the tank and it lowered the pH to around 6 (i'm aware this is way too low). Three weeks ago my beautiful T. vittatus female dissappeared.
