I'm not currently worried about the word count requirement for the fic I'm planning on writing, but I have to ask: Why do you guys up the minimum required word count every single year? Will there be one day where the minimum required word count is like 100K or something? (that was sarcasm, mostly...)

But for real, do you plan to continue upping it every year? And why do you do it? Just curious.....

We haven't upped it every year! The requirement was 15k for quite a while before we moved it to 20k, etc. However, many Big Bang challenges have wordcount requirements from 25k and higher. Because people in the past have seemed perfectly capable of producing long works that meet our requirements, and because there is such a standard of ultra-long fic in similar Challenges, we thought it appropriate to increase our standards as well.

As of right now, we do not anticipate raising the wordcount beyond 25k in future rounds.

Okay! Thank you for explaining. That makes sense to me.

I didn't participate before last round, I had only heard it was 15K in round three from my friends doing it so I just thought this was a recurring theme: 15k - 20k - 25k.

But anyways, yes, thank you for explaining. :) I'm very excited for this year's bang & can't wait to share what I've been working on w/everybody.
