Wasn't Bruce supposed to be studying abroad during their sophmore year of college? Liz could have run into him in Heathrow airport, cried on his shoulder, then they could have traveled Europe together. When she slept with him, it would complete the circle of when he tried to rape her in the beginning of the series. Because only in Sweet Valley could an attempted rape lead to soulmates.
