Wowzas my first post! Well, here we go...In the previous book the twins 14 year old brother Steven met Jill Hale, the woman of his dreams, unfortunately after taking her on a date that went horrendously wrong, Jill doesn't want anything to do with him.
The book starts with the Unicorns meeting at Jessica's house Janet Howell (evil, EVIL!!!) tells them that she has tickets to see the show Staying up with Uncle Bob (okay that name is just creepy) and that she'll take one Unicorn with them. Steven meanwhile, is walking round the house like a zombie and keeps burning food (strange side affect of heartbreak but to each his own!) Janet says he has a bad case of 'the Jill Hales,' she tells them that Jill is now dating her brother Joe, Stevens best friend (god people in Sweet Valley have no loyalty towards friends). Jessica tells Janet that Steven doesn't care about Jill and that he'll be over her in a week, Janet isn't so sure, so Jessica makes a bet with her; if Jess can prove Steven is over Jill in one week, Janet will give Jess and Elizabeth both tickets to Staying up with Bob.
Liz and Jess start wondering how they can prove Steven is over Jill, they decide to set him up with his friend Cathy Connors. They think Steven needs to see her as more than a friend, and think the best way to do this would be to make him jealous (it worked on Days of the Turmoil don't ya know!). The twins decide to send her presents from a secret admirer, they send with cut out letters with the presents, so that the letters will eventually spell out his name.
The next day at school Steven eats lunch with Joe and Jill, Jill tells Steven how she's interested in motorbikes, so Steven pretends to be aswell. He decides to find a job so that he can save up and buy a motorbike (he can't even drive yet!!!!!) He winds up getting a job at a burger place where Cathy works. At school Anita Pearce comes by and asks Cathy about the flowers that were delivered to her house that morning (erm stalker much?), Cathy tells them she has a secret admirer and Steven starts to feel weird about this.
The twins send Cathy another present and some more letters and she wonders who her secret admirer could be. Steven and Cathy are getting along great at work, Joe comes in and Steven acciddently gives him more change than he should, Joe gives him the money back and Steven is grateful as the mistake would have gotten him fired. Steven starts to thinkabout what a crappy friend he is, trying to steal Joe's girlfriend (a Wakefield with a conscience about stealing their best friends love?Shocker!!!), so he goes round to Joe's house after work to tell him everything. When he gets there Joe shows him the motorbike he's just bought and tells him that he's split up with Jill as she was more keen on him than he was on her. Steven realizes that Jill never really like motorbikes, she just liked them because Joe did. Joe tells Steven that Jill says he's a nice guy but Steven realizes she's only saying that because Joe likes him.
Steven and Cathy are at work later and she gets another present, she has all the letters and realises that they spell Steven Wakefield!Steven tells her he never sent the presents but he wishes he had, Steven and Cathy kiss and the twins manage to take a picture as proof. The next day is the day of the bet, and Jessica is at Janets house, as Janet is about to celebrate her win, Liz rushes in with the picture and the twins win the bet!Suprise, suprise!
That night at dinner, Liz thinks about how she wishes she had a goofy, useless talent as people in the audience at Staying up with Uncle Bob are picked to show their skill. When Jess flicks a pea at her, Liz manages to bat it awat with her knife, she does this everytime and never misses. This can be her useless talent!Erm...that's not a talent its just crap. Her talent should be cheating on every boyfriend she has without fail.
At the show of course Liz is picked in the audience (well it is Sweet Valley and they are the Wakefields) and Jess helps her demonstrate. Her 'talent' goes down a storm and the next day at school, everyone is talking abou it and Todd Wilkins even comes and presents the twins with a bouquet of flowers each!I haven't even made that bit up, wtf!! So all's well that ends well...or is it?Melissa McCormick and her brother have been acting strange, what could their deal be? Read Elizabeth and the Orphans if you care
