SVH #53 Second Chance; or Tennis the Menace

Jun 22, 2008 23:57

SVH #53 Second Chance focuses mainly on Kristin Thompson. On the cover she’s clutching her tennis racket to her chest, I think it’s love. Considering she dumps Bruce’s sorry ass before the end, and there’s no other love interest (barring everybody’s favourite Porsche, 1bruce1, who’s crying in the corner of the Patman garage over the fact Kristin ( Read more... )

Great re-cap!

Thanks.

I'm happy someone caught the Joey-Jo-Jo reference. It's one of my fave Simpsons quotes.

I just hope I didn't put too many Simpsons references in the recap.

There can never be too many Simpsons references!

Homer: Why...Joey Jo-Jo. Junior...Shabadoo.

Moe: That's the stupidest name I ever heard!

*man runs off crying*

Barney: Hey, it's Joey Jo Jo!

*win* This book made me laugh so hard. Teen 'perfect sports star' angst and Liz-erference in the background! I was almost tempted to show this to 'my' community college tennis instructor, for a larf.

This book was one of my fave SVH books as a kid, probably cause of the lack of Jessica. She gets exhausting after a while.

I don't play tennis, so how accurate/inaccurate was the portrayal of Kristin and tennis in general?

Eh, not inaccurate but made way too much like a soap opera. Mind you, I only took one semester at the comm. college but I LEARNED plenty. Generally, you have to have really good grades to also play tennis in high school--so Kristen would've had more time than the lunch hour to do homework.

"Generally, you have to have really good grades to also play tennis in high school--so Kristen would've had more time than the lunch hour to do homework."

What? I would say that generally the girls tennis team at my school was comprised of higher class, and better/more dedicated students than the average football team etc., but all of my schools sports teams had the same GPA requirement - 2.0. And every other high school I know is the same.

I mean, obviously only having lunch hour to do homework is inaccurate, but still. The idea that you have to have really good grades to play tennis doesn't really make sense.

Although I do know I will never eat cookies baked by Jessica. Nuff said.

You wouldn't even eat the JEM Cookies that Jessica made that got "famous"?

I couldn't risk it. Jess is so dizzyheaded, she might have accidently added some magical vodka. :)

Hahaha. That'd be awesome.

I think the reason I find Mr Collins so creepy is not the fact that he is so attentive to Elizabeth, but that he exhibits absolutely no attraction towards Jessica. Because, really, Jessica is hands down the twin worth pursuing. Being attracted to Elizabeth is like lusting over Ann Landers. I suppose it’s possible in theory, but why would you want to?

And...I just spit tea all over my monitor. You win.

Well, being from Australia, I really have little idea who Dear Abby and Ann Landers are. But I remember Flanders calling Ann Landers a boring old biddy, and went from there.
