My education professor just emailed me after class today. It honestly really touched me - I started to cry when I read it. In class we were talking a little bit about how researchers have been working with autistic kids using improvisational exercises to get them to learn how to better interact with people in real life. Some of us are lucky enough to, during our educational careers, have a teacher or two who really understands us and helps us to thrive. I had two of them...my fifth grade teacher, who tamed me (the wild child) through gentle encouragement rather than mistreatment (which I had endured from some of my earlier teachers), and my high school chorus teacher, who helped me to develop my musical skills and find my niche in that school, and whose classroom became my home away from home for several years. Sometimes having such a teacher is all it takes to allow us to blossom, and I'm really glad that you've found one like that.

I am truly blessed to finally have a professor who understands the challenges I've faced in my life. It's just...to have someone who knows what Asperger's means and has an understanding of how hard it's been for me...it really, really goes a long way.
