My education professor just emailed me after class today. It honestly really touched me - I started to cry when I read it. In class we were talking a little bit about how researchers have been working with autistic kids using improvisational exercises to get them to learn how to better interact with people in real life. I mentioned that I have Asperger's and that in public a lot of the time I feel like I'm reacting to people by reading from a script in my head. So my professor sent me this after class:
HI Steph,
I just wanted to thank you for sharing your personal experiences with autism spectrum today in class. In sharing your personal experiences, you created a situation and the potential for all of us to develop a more meaningful understanding of autism. Thank you so much; you are a highly valued member of our learning community!
Have a great weekend! And, thanks for being you!
That touched me more than I can express to her. Seriously. I've had four total classes and that woman has already touched me in a way no other professor has at this school. She understands. That means the world to me.
