just a quick, public fyi: does everyone remember this picture?

well, whether you do or not, that's from september 2007, and the girl's name is courtney. she was(/is? i have no idea + it's unimportant) ryan's friend, and this was her birthday party. she also mentioned him in her journal in 2006 (his ~queer costume, lmao. obviously summer tour)

The idea of Ryan having "always hung out" with that circle of bands is hilarious. They are selective about who they associate with and Panic would have been, and probably still is, a joke to them. There might have been a friend of a friend situation going on, but Ryan was not on their radar until last year when Phantom Planet opened for Panic and Alex Greenwald took an interest in Ryan.

yeah, i was going to mention alex/hct in there but i figured that was already pretty common knowledge. but the way ryan was hanging out with the girl in the picture + her friends (there are tons of pictures of him with people that would pretty much fit the ~hipster mold from 07) i'd say the friend of a friend is most likely to be what was going on.

which was why i was pretty specific in not saying he was ~bffs with z from the get go and instead said he was just connected to her. basically, i'm just pointing out that he's been around people like them for a long time, he didn't wake up one day and decide to worm his way into hipster culture

Panic would have been, and probably still is, a joke to them. This basically sums up why alot of people seem to resent Ryan and his mates at the moment.

This whole sympathy for Ryan Ross is absolute trite.

Um. Courtney doesn't know Z, she's talking about Z as a fan in that journal, I remember it from 2006. She doesn't actually know Z, she just has a girlcrush on her. Not to say Ryan hasn't been acting out as some sort of a hipster since 2006, just a totally different crowd of Vegas kids as opposed to the LA scene.

i basically replied the same way to the other anon, but i didn't say he knew z back then, just that he was connected to her. you've pretty much got the only point i was trying to make - that he's been around people in popular scenes for years, it's not a new thing.

nooo I'm saying he has been connected with that type of ~scene before he got involved with all the hipster friends now. long story short he didn't change overnight like some people seem to think he did
