Soon you will be speaking Spanglish, oh no. So many american kids go abroad to teach english though, I wonder if they experience the same thing? I do wonder how bilingual people context switch so easily. Although remember that you're still immersing yourself in Chilean Spanish, so that's something right? I mean, if you stayed in the US you wouldn't be getting that Spanish exposure at all.

Oh, and that reminds me, I totally talked to Liz E. yesterday. She was all "we haven't talked in a year!" and I was like, omg, that's true. Er, yeah. We should totally get her to update her livejournal occasionally.

Okay, I know nothing about language acquisition, so this is complete speculation but...I wonder if what you're experiencing isn't a deterioration, but a reorganization--that is, your brain is mixing up language structure prior to sorting it out. I think this is what happens with bi-lingual children. Is it possible that you're actually just integrating both languages at a higher level?

omg i know right! like today in class i blanked for a good 3 seconds on what we call a cajatilla de cigarros...and my stuents just looked at me and i´m like i swear i´m a compotent english speaker, really! and i´ve told you i´d be super proud if my spanish were as good as yours, but of course it´s all relative to your starting point/regardless it sucks to feel like you´ve gone backwards. anyway...are you doing any spanish studying? cuz that´s something i should prob get on too (especially since my number one spanish practice partner doesn´t talk to me much anymore haha). blah...
hope all is well in the new hogar and ttyl!

Dude, I'm going RIGHT NOW to the campus oriente to look for a grammar book with one of the EAP students--the one who's living in the house--because I just need some serious practice. And I'm going to steal it, take it to work, and photocopy the whole damn thing. I'll maybe make you some extras?

AND OMIGOD, feeling the cajatilla de cigarros thing... today, someone asked me how to say "unir," and it took WAY too long. So embarassing--I wonder if this is why high school teachers make you look words up without help instead of providing you the answers. Ugh.
