This is crazy but...

Hey y'all!

I just found out (pretty late now) that Master of the Universe by Snowqueens Icedragon is being published. This is a TWIfic, AU/AH, that is so crazy beautiful and long and perfect. It had over 24K comments on Twilighted. It was amazing! But because of it being published, it was pulled from FF.net, her site 50shades.com, and Twilighted. It ( Read more... )

Ugh, IMO, writers who do that deserve no money whatsoever for their story. They may file off the serial numbers so to speak, but I'm violently, violently opposed to money being made from fandom things and I now think very little of this Icedragon person.

Also, try reading the cliffnotes version from here.

Yeah. No writing is that good. Ever.

Eek!

I'm still reading the cliffies, but I've learned a lot! SQID has a lot of fans, but also quite a few enemies! I'll write more on that when I get finished.

When writers take their stories down, I get kinda crazy. When they are published and no longer accessible, I get kinda angry. Some stories, that are AU/AH, or RPfics, can easily transition into some published material. But when it happens to be TWIfic, with a canon pairing, no matter what plot the writer puts on it, or funky spin that makes it completely different from the original, we still see the characters originally written. That's why publishing and making money off of something that is part of a fandom is iffy for me. And SQID has a really bad, uppity attitude about her accomplishments in TWIverse.

I did manage to get a copy of MOTU, but it's 1517 pages long in 11pt. How the crap is that going to be turned into a book?!

And hi Akasha! How I've missed you... :P

rawr, 13!

Honestly, I think that any kind of fan fic that can be turned into o-fic without seriously giving away the fandom was bad fan fic to begin with. And if it can't... then why the fuck are they even trying?

IDK, as a writer, it simply makes me see red. I have SO MANY ideas for stories (although some may be slightly similar, but so what?) and don't get why those greedy people don't simply use their fan fic as a learning experience for what people do and don't like and then write a new story. Hell, the new story might even be better! Gah!

Also, I don't like wankas that believe they're above fandom.

As for how that's going to be turned into a book... I heard she's vanity publishing - as in, doing it herself. So I suppose it's basically going to be some kind of e-book you can buy and/or can order printed and bound via some site.

IDEK.

Heya. ♥ I haven't been far away. Just... bad at checking my f-list. :)

i totally agree with akasha. changing names of a fanfic and then publishing them should not be allowed. and i really hate when they pull their stories and say things like, "my agent says i shouldn't have this stuff up."

i suppose that should have been considered before you posted it.

ugh!

as for master of the universe, it doesn't surprise me. it got so many hits and reviews. its no wonder she's decided to publish it. again, it might be well written but its still very very clearly a twilight story. by her own admission, she used bdsm as the vampire's bite (i used to write to her personally on the motu blog). really shouldn't be allowed.

I'm trying to remember... I think it was Bunney that went crazy over o-fic writers and fanfic writers. Once someone writes an o-fic, or becomes published, fan writing takes a backseat and is usually seen as lesser or not as important.

These TWI fan writers are really cashing in though. Once they hit the 10K reviews, it's only a matter of time before they're published and disappear forever. I wish Twilight fan writers would treat their own stories well, and respect their readers. You probably don't see many HP writers that'll write something, then change the name and cash it in. I may be wrong but I don't think I am.

Someone should write about that, the difference in fandoms from HP and TWI... We HPers do things differently!
