Giselle grinned as she took in her surroundings. "It's exquisite," she breathed, turning to her companion and giving him a smile brighter than the Vegas sun. "Even more than the Palace of Caesar!" she nodded.

Next to her, Gil Grissom simply smiled. She'd been calling it that most of the morning, regardless of how many times he had tried to correct her. "This isn't the surprise," he finally said, reaching for her elbow. "What I wanted to show you is this way." Nodding to the path ahead of them, Grissom escorted Giselle along the walkway at the Venetian.

Around them, shoppers moved in and out of stores, stopped to look in the windows, and took pictures of the architecture surrounding them before the sun finished setting and the lights came on. Giselle kept looking up, or to the side; turning around as best she could without letting go of Grissom. Even though she knew not to let go of him, there was so much for her to see.

"You will be able to see everything, Giselle," he assured her, stopping to let a crowd of obvious tourists pass. Making eye contact, he nodded to the redhead, so that she could see his intentions. "You have my word."

Giselle gave him another warm smile and nodded. "Thank you, Gilbert," she replied. "I just don't want to you spend all your time taking care of me."

Grissom made a face and patted her hand. "You trusted me enough to come along, Giselle. You could have stayed, or gone home. I have no intention of leaving you to fend for yourself." And, really, after the experience they'd had, he wasn't as rushed to get back to work. He still enjoyed what he did, of course, but the time he had spent in relative isolation had shown him that there was quite a bit he had missed over the years.

Now, having made a true friend in the odd young woman who still tried to talk to every animal she saw - none had yet to speak back - Grissom was enjoying the relaxation.

It took another few steps for Giselle to see where Grissom was taking her, and she immediately started bouncing in place. "Oh, Gilbert! Really?" Her bright, wide eyes locked on his and Grissom simply nodded. "Oh, thank you, thank you!" she said excitedly, pushing up on her toes to hug him.

Just ahead of them, there was a gondola waiting, complete with a waiting gondolier. Two other people were standing at the boarding area, taking a photo of the craft they were about to board. Grissom nodded to the attendant, lowering his voice just enough to ask the older man about a family member, and then the gondolier called for his passengers to board.

The first couple boarded, then Giselle, then Grissom. As they settled into the provided seats, the couple started chatting with Giselle, while Grissom simply smiled and nodded.

Okay, maybe the time away hadn't changed him completely.
