Romantic Getaway Catherine Willows groaned lightly as her system hit that point of naturally awake. Shifting slightly, she tried to pretend that she wasn't even close to awake and wondered if she could simply melt into the bed. For as much as every inch of her hurt, the bed was doing glorious wonders for her back.
Opening one eye, Catherine could see the sun trying to peek in from behind the curtains and that made her grimace. Glancing the other way, she tried to find the clock in the room and wondered just how late she was going to be for work. Before her eyes could focus on the large, red numbers, however, Catherine remembered that she wasn't at home. She wasn't even in Nevada.
Pushing up to her elbows, Catherine took a quick mental inventory of the last twenty-four hours. Her best friend had showed up at her door at a rather ungodly hour and told her to get in the car. Next thing she new, Catherine was at the airport, going through security - not to mention getting the evil eye because neither of them had bags - and, within an hour, on an airplane.
Nine hours later, she was ready to die from the humidity of a Florida autumn and being herded into a rental car. Not long after that, she was waiting in line for the newest roller coaster the Florida theme parks had to offer, and all because she had bet Gil Grissom that the case the night before wasn't motivated by jealousy over a long-standing rivalry.
Once he had forced her onto the coaster - yes, she would claim forced, when asked - Catherine found that she was actually enjoying the mini-vacation. Even if it was only one afternoon. She was honestly afraid to know how much this whole adventure had cost him, between the flights, the park tickets and the hotel.
Thankfully, she'd at least managed to take her wallet before they left Vegas, and she'd stopped in one of the shops outside the park after dinner. She wasn't about to sleep in the clothes she'd been wearing all day, let alone make the folks on the flight back share her misery.
The sound of the door caught her attention and Catherine watched as Grissom came into the mostly-dark room with a bag and a bottle of orange juice. "Breakfast," he explained, holding the items up. "Get up, already. We've got a roller coaster to ride." Grissom set her breakfast on the small desk and waved her out of the bed.
Catherine groaned and pulled the covers over her head. "We rode them all yesterday!" Oh, there was the spot she'd been looking for. Sighing, Catherine relaxed and smiled. "You go. I'm staying right here."
"We didn't ride them all yesterday, actually. And you can't stay here. Only have the room for one night," Grissom said, sitting down on the bed and pulling the covers back again.
"I want this bed. Think they will box it up and send it to my house?" Catherine asked, ignoring Grissom pulling on her hand and arm.
"Yep. We'll box it up. You want to ride with it? I can poke some holes in the side." Catherine snorted and sat up, her hair going every which way.
Narrowing her eyes, Catherine watched Grissom for a moment. "I can't believe you brought me all the way to Florida to ride a stupid roller coaster." Raising an eyebrow, Catherine leaned toward him and glanced at his shoulder. "You could have just asked me out." Grissom simply shrugged. Pushing the rest of the covers back, Catherine waved him out of her way and slid to the edge of the bed. "What would you have done if I hadn't gotten on the plane?"
"I would have seen you when I got back," he replied dryly. Catherine scoffed and moved over to the paper bag he'd just brought in. Peeking into the bag, Catherine looked up and held the bag to him.
"This is a chocolate chip muffin." Grissom nodded. After all, he knew what was in there. "Are you trying to bribe me, Gil?" Grissom just gave her a blank stare. Catherine took a step toward him and set the bag down on the bed. "What are you up to?" Grissom shook his head.
Catherine moved over to his side and narrowed her eyes. She'd break him; she knew all his little quirks... possibly better than he did. She slowly reached up and, even slower, trailed her fingertip along his jaw. She saw the hint of a smile for only a second before his arm wrapped around her and pulled her even closer.
"Just an experiment. How much would it take and, was is it even possible, to throw you off enough," Grissom said quietly, "to get you in this position?" He tightened the hold on her just enough that she flinched and Grissom grinned.
"I can't believe it worked."
