Charlie wandered around the diner, checking on customers.

"Do you need anything else, Lloyd?" she asked, stopping by the table with the sheriff and his partner. Both men shook their heads. "Everything's quiet today," she remarked.

Llyod swallowed around his coffee, nodding. "Yeah, for the convention tomorrow. You know how it gets. News travels fast even when you aren't involved with it." And really, not many random people from Midland were affected by it. But if you lived in the outskirts of town (like Charlie did), it was exciting to hear about. Well, if you liked that kind of thing, anyway.

Charlie rolled her eyes, "Don't I know that."

"It'll pick up again soon," he grinned. "Don't want you to get bored, you know."

"I'm sure something will happen soon," Charlie agreed. She was looking forward to seeing Hiro the next day. The next day really wouldn't be boring ( ... )

Hiro looked around the inside of the diner, his pulse quickening and a smile across his face. It had looked different from when he was first getting out of the taxi, but it was likely that was just because he excited from the possibility of meeting his American friends from the Internet ( ... )

Shaking off the surprise of seeing him early, Charlie smiled at him.

"Hiro, right?" she asked. She set the rag down and walked around to the other side of the counter. "Its good to meet you." She offered her hand in greeting. That was less awkward than trying to decide if she should hug him, or something else, she decided.

Her smile brightened as she let herself fully take him in. He was slightly taller than her (not a hard achievement) and he was wearing a suit. A really nice suit. And he was... cute. But she wouldn't let her mind even go there, not when they'd hardly said two words to each other yet.

"Did you have a nice flight?" she asked.

The redhead approached him, and Hiro caught a veritable collection of smells; freshly cooked waffles, burgers, and an undercurrent of a spritz or perfume that hadn't been masked yet by the scents of the diner. Something along the lines of watermelon and peaches. One would have typically taken such a grouping in apprehension, but looking at Charlie, Hiro felt it suited her really well, and he wanted to take more of it in...

But that was rude of him, to be so brash and judgmental about a person he had only been talking to over the Internet.

Regardless, she was pretty, he had to admit. Perhaps in another time and another place, if he didn't live in Tokyo, he would have gotten to know her a bit better.

"Yes, I am Hiro Nakamura!" he responded, grinning, and shaking her hand enthusiastically.

"The flight was very wrong," he replied, shaking his head at the length of the plane ride from Tokyo to Midland, "Take too much time, but exciting at same time! I never fly before, made me feel like Superman to be in sky!"

"Have Charlie flown

She had to laugh at his excitement of flying. His happiness was contagious. She had never met someone that could do that to her on just a first meeting.

"No, I've never flown before." Charlie shook her head. For the millionth time, she wished she had, just so she could have something to talk about. He seemed so thrilled about the idea. "I bet it is an amazing feeling," she agreed. "To be as high as the birds."

She glanced at him again and then away. Their hands were still clasped together and as much as she didn't want to break contact, she did. His hand was so warm.

"Come sit at the counter," Charlie suggested. "You can tell me more about your flight. And what you think of Texas so far." He probably hadn't seen much yet, but the open plains and spaces were enough to at least make a slight impression.

"Would you like something to drink or eat?" she asked.
