"Japan does sound very different," Charlie agreed, watching him. He had such enthusiasm. And all for Texas. She couldn't fathom it (Texas was boring). But it made her smile brighter at him. "I know I'd love to see it someday." She had never seen very many mountains, only briefly during family trips when she was younger. "I bet you're an amazing tour guide."

"You'll get used to the heat, too," she added. "And it isn't even that hot outside, really. It'll cool down closer to night." Compared to summertime, the weather wasn't nearly as bad as it could get, but it was no where near paradise yet.

Chili dog? Well, OK, it made sense. It seemed to be a favorite among most people.

"Yeah, I've had chili dogs before," Charlie nodded. She grinned, "Ours is the best around here. Very messy." She glanced behind her, at the espresso maker. "I make a pretty good cup of coffee, if you're interested."

"Oh very different, yes! I have cousin who live at San Francisco, and even pictures they very unlike Japan! I very glad you like idea of travel, like Star Trek! 'Boldly go where no man has gone before!' If one not wanting to go places, it very sad. They not have adventuresome spirit! I not great at tour, but I more than happy to show Japan if you go!" Hiro replied, incredibly happy that Charlie was interested in the idea of traveling beyond Texas. That anyone could be happy only existing in the present was beyond him. One had to love what one could see in the possibilities of the future ( ... )

Traveling was not a topic Charlie was shy with. She nodded, agreeing with him, "It would be a sad place if no one wanted to go anywhere. I've been planning a world trip since I was little," she confessed. "I want to go everywhere. To experience it all. To be able to say yes, I've done that and lived to experience the tale."

One thing was for sure, Japan would be on her list. Well, it already had been, a little bit. Just from the brief chatting from the internet. But now, she was making more solid plans, that yes Japan was there on the list. For now, it would rank at #3. Maybe higher, depending...

At the mention of the meeting, Charlie stilled, glancing at him, trying not let the confusion show. He thought it was today? It was tomorrow. Was it the jet lag? It had to have been.

"Hiro," she started, and stopped. Unsure, she tried again, "Hiro, today is Tuesday. I thought you're meeting was on Wednesday?"

"I like travel too, but this first time in America. Before, I only travel across Japan and Okinawa. Okinawa like America Hawaii, very tropical and warm. It pretty, too, you must visit! Everyone should have good story on travel, like... Cusack? That right person? Go travel far, and live things. See world even if bad things happen, you still have great thing to talk about!"

Hiro was loving this. Being able to talk about travel plans and going to unfamiliar places was one of the things he enjoyed most about sci-fi. You had to leave the regular behind for things like that, otherwise you didn't have much fun at all and got hung up in the details.

"Oh no, meeting today! Boss-san and I get off plane and prepare for actual conference at afternoon! Very busy, but I get most done on plane, so I more free," Rustling through his pocket, Hiro pulled out the ticket stub from the layover and handed it eagerly to Charlie, "See? Flight Wednesday!"
