"Hey, man," he said, putting a steadying hand on Joey's shoulder. "Do you need to sit down or something?"

The motherhen frown deepened.

"You don't look so good--what's wrong?"

"I've had a grand total of 8 cups of coffee. And two cappuccinos once I got in."

Joey blinked, rubbing at his eyes. "It killed the alcohol. Which I'm never drinking again. Ever."

"If if makes it better, I'm drunk still."
"I... I'm not."

His stomach gave a lurch and he had to stop, face twisted in a grimace. His nerves were killing him, over-used and completely twitchy... He was so incredible screwed.

Alcohol. It never solved anything; never simplified anything. But in the moment? Oh, Zach knew all about alcohol. He knew it intimately.

"Do something stupid?" he asked commiseratingly, squeezing the taller boy's shoulder.

Don't touch me. You don't want to be touching me

Now the laugh was hysterical, forcing him to hold his knees and repress the urge to throw up. He trailed off after a minute, gasping in large breaths, one hand swiping at his face to rid himself of the laughter-induced tears.

"A whole new level of stupid," he got out after he stopped panting.

And it had been. A glorious, wonderful, stupid. thing...

That put Zach's frown into a whole new category. It was hard to believe he was jealous of, maybe even hated, this wreck of an individual. Not that he himeself wasn't a wreck, but...

No, they were done. Zach hugged him.
