Nanao was at a loss when she had arrived at the bookstore at six in the morning. She couldn't shelve books because her shopping trip with Kururu had been quite successful and she didn't want to get dust on her nice clothes. So instead she paced. Fiddled with paperwork and paced somemore. Finally she was double checking the alphabetized order of the entire children's section nat the front when the door finally opened ( ... )

Nanao hid a smile behind her food as she observed the slight mess Vash was making of his face.

"You're right these are very good. Where'd you get them? I'll have to start stopping there before work."

He grabbed a napkin and cleaned up his face a bit with a small blush before he answered, "Ah. In the convenience store near the apartment building." Vash smiled a bit, "They make them fresh every day!"

"That's good to know."

Nanao polished off her third and final doughnut before patting her napkin across her mouth. She was done (but doubted very much that he was) and content to wait.

Vash finished off his fifth just about the same time as Nanao did, although still hungry it was never polite to make a pig of oneself in front of a lady. He had learned that lesson rather painfully a few more times than he cared to recall, but not since he came here. The women he encountered here weren't bothered in the slightest by his rather bottomless appetite for good food.

Instead of picking up the bear claw which was calling his name in his head, the gunman finished off his milk and wiped his face clean of the milk-stashe that had made its way there. "You wanted to see my arm right?" He was still uneasy about it but Vash knew it had to be done later if not now, "It's not a pretty sight..."

She smiled at his chivalrous attempts. He really was quite adorable.

"It's alright. It won't bother me." She stood and pulled her chair around the table to sit on his left patiently waiting until he was comfortable enough to show her his appendage.

Vash nodded a bit and took off his jacket, careful not to knock anything over on the table or accidentally jar Nanao. The metal shined brightly in the morning sunlight, blinding a few patrons who chose to look that way. Honestly he was glad the kids at school had never questioned his odd arm, usually they were all very curious and never let go of something like that. The adults at school assumed he was a war veteran and had lost his arm some time ago since he rarely spoke of phantom pain, honestly it had been a long time. Seventy-five long years and ten more tacked on top of that.

ooc: Scars & arm, just for reference.

Nanao frowned a bit switching instantly into the single minded intensity she normally reserved for using kido. His arm was a lot more contained than she thought it would be but it made sense. If his home climate is really as harsh as he says then it would need the coverings to stay functionable. Unthinkingly her hands began lightly tracing the ridges and seams of it from his wrist up. Her frowned deepened as she inspected the place where his shoulder connected to it. Was it cross-hatched with metal onto his chest? She couldn't tell properly because of his shirt and was loathe to ask.

"I should probably ask before I try anything...do you have feeling in your arm? Psuedo-nerve endings that might hurt you if I do something wrong?"

She looked at him intently focused on helping him and solving this new puzzle before her.

Although he couldn't feel everything that Nanao was doing to his arm just watching her gently inspect his arm sent was likely to send a few shivers down his spine. Vash chose instead to watch her face, though it was frowning now it was still lovely to look at. He followed her gaze and grimaced a bit, he probably should have bandaged the skin that would be showing past his shirt. It wasn't fit for anyone to look at except himself, reminders of the past and of home ( ... )

It fascinated her how he could turn his arm off.

A gun..? She was confused a moment before it registered as a human weapon in her mind. Live rounds must mean it's still dangerous.

"I'll be careful. Hold on a moment."

She rose and went to the back grabbing the plastic container that held the tools and few cleaning supplies used in the store. When she returned she carefully took off the coverings and pulled out the gun as gingerly as she could.

"If you don't mind me asking...what exactly do you do at home?"

lol I wondered where you went.... thehidingfool June 13 2009, 23:22:03 UTC
"What I ah...do...?" Er...was there really a safe way to answer that? Granted there was very little chance that there would still be a bounty on his head here, wherever here was. It certainly wasn't Gunsmoke, not in ten years, and it probably wasn't Nanao's home either.

Vash watched Nanao work a little, inspecting and tinkering with his arm. With his free hand he quickly removed the bullets and locked the gun's safety on, the live brass casings making their way to his pocket. "Not to seem cowardly...

"I run away a lot. I had a wrongful bounty on my head," okay it was really right but he could have destroyed many of things instead of shooting the moon, "And the bounty collectors don't want to listen to you when they could collect sixty billion double dollars."

He gave a short laugh and ran a hand through his hair, "I try to protect people that get caught in the middle of it though. It happens a lot more than you'd think." Memories started flashing, bad ones, ones of the people he couldn't save. Like Wolfwood. Damn it.

Sorry! viceise June 14 2009, 04:27:54 UTC
She stopped short in her inspection and stared up at him. She couldn't help it she burst out laughing.

"Oh...I'm so sorry for laughing but you having a bounty on your head seems ridiculous to me! You're such a wonderful man, I can't even imagine what they would think to accuse you of. It's awfully wonderful as well that you help out those caught in the crossfire."

She returned to his arm this time with a cloth sprayed with a bit of cleaning solution.

"I'm going to wipe out some of this build up so I can see if it's the cause of your difficulty moving or if it's actual mechanical failure."

Somehow she started humming the song about sakura blossoms her captain always sang when he was actually in the office.

xD It's okay! thehidingfool June 14 2009, 14:57:20 UTC
He laughed with her, why not? It was rather odd to know him and know that there was a bounty over his head. But then again he had done horrible things against his will that needed to be accounted for.

"It's not really their fault that they get caught up in it. Most of the time they're trying to help me, regardless of my identity...."

He trailed off, listening to Nanao hum as she worked on discovering the problems with his arm. Vash had to admit that sans the stares this was pretty nice.

Nanao continued to work and succeeded in cleaning out all of the joints and other places mechanical goo had built up. There was nothing wrong with his elbow joint apart from rather thick gunk but the wrist joint seemed to have melted colored wax in it.

She giggled a bit and looks up into his eyes.

"Vash does your class often use crayons?"

Crayons...?

OH. Those things with the weird colors and even weirder color names.

"Yes... But what does that have to do wi-- ... Oh. I wondered where the Inchworm crayon went."
