Merrill Jessop, the right hand man to Warren Jeffs was arrested last night, released on bail, but still. If you read Escaped by Carolyn Jessop, that's her former husband. Also, those v. disturbing pictures I posted a while back with Warren Jeffs'

I have to say, the Trib has had this attitude all along. For YEARS. Back when the Kingstons were in the news for the dad marrying his daughter to his brother, and then marrying his other daughter (ick) there was a lot of "allegedly" put in the reports.

It was very, "we can't believe wealthy Mr. Kingston did this!" Have you ever driven up the canyon to Echo? That's where they live. They own all the "Mall of America" strips. And that's what's on paper.

Money put in a kitty and doled out at the leisure of a leader without input of the masses?

Communism.

Socialism would put money into a kitty, yes, but the doling out is done not by one megalomanic, but by representatives of the people (elected officials). And there is some say as to where that money goes. If you go by the straight Marxist definition, it is rule by the proletariat. I shy away from that... but you get the picture.

Well, it's SUPPOSED to be socialism, because of how it was originally set up by Joseph Smith (Law of Consecration, all early Mormons practiced it.)

Everyone contributed to a central "bank" (food, money, time&talents) and a group assigned to its care meets with the individuals and metes out what's needed. In some fashion, the church still continues to do this. They have a welfare system that is absolutely fantastic and lay-run. it's not one person that's in charge.

The FLDS took this idea and since Rulon and esp. Warren Jeffs came into power have limited the control over these funds. Warren came into complete control (the UEP) and had flunkies that doled it out at his command. The YFZ Ranch was not so controlled, so I'm sticking with it being socialism now. Yes?
