I had an epiphany a few days ago.

Some people are really suited to working in an office. Some people are suited to jobs with regimented schedules and micromanagement and office politics. I'm not suited to that. That environment makes me anxious and eventually depressed, and affects my physical health negatively ( Read more... )

I read a recent article about how we're just going to have to get used to the fact that not everybody can work. And if that's the case, i hope that the homemaker profession becomes more highly valued. It can be incredibly beneficial to quality of life, to say nothing of the fact the environmental impact-- we'll waste less, and eat better, and produce less. That's going to be crucial.

If you find the article again, I'd love to read it!

(I hope the homemaker profession becomes more highly valued, too -- while I can't do the same amount as an able-bodied homemaker, I do still provide value to my household in the many things I *am* able to accomplish . . . but because I have SSDI income, my work is treated as more valuable because there's still money coming in. I have been a homemaker with no outside income, and the difference in other people's valuation of my work has been striking. I also had a professional career in the past to compare it to, so I've got three perspectives on household contributions, and it's definitely eye-opening.)
