The FDA has banned Darvocet. Darvocet is my "last resort" pain killer. I emailed my internist asking for an alternative. I am allergic to one of the conventional alternatives (hydrocodone) which is why I switched to Darvocet in the first place. I MUCH preferred Darvocet to hydrocodone, too, as it isn't as much of a mood flattener. I am already ( Read more... )

Oh, shit -- I'm so sorry! :(

(I can't take Darvocet or any of the heavy-hitters I've tried so far because they all make me vomitous, although if I take Promethazine with it I can sometimes barely manage if I'm post-surgery or something), but I know how awful it is to have a drug you NEED taken off the market.

I hope that your doctor can find you a good alternative...

Thank you, sugar. Yeah, I only take the Darvocet for my periods but sometimes I really NEED it for them.

It's a kitty!!! :D

Go into your Settings and click "Enable Cyrillic Services". Then go here: http://www.livejournal.com/shop/userheads.bml

(It will take you to the general LJ shop if you don't have Cyrillic enabled, but it goes to the userhead page if you do.)

They're $2, they last for a year, and it amused me to have a little kitty-face every time I post :D

Is Lyrica on-label for fibro? It's a GABA agonist, not an opiate. Of the two people I know on it, one has Ehlers-Danlos syndrome and the other has chronic back pain of unknown etiology, and it's decreased the amount of opiates that both have to take.

Lyrica is approved for fibro now. But what I take the Darvocet for is menstrual pain. I have really really hellish periods- I take a bunch of other things (2-3 types of NSAIDS and Tramadol) first and then if those fail me I hit the Darvocet. Or, I used to ( ... )

Oh, that sucks. Does codeine have unpleasant side effects? Co-codamol (equivalent of Tylenol 3) is relatively easy to get in Europe; in Belgium they actually sell straight-up codeine over the counter as a cough syrup, so I sometimes down a shot of that with some Tylenol if my back is fucked up. I'm happy to bring you some next time I blow through Houston if it'll be at all helpful.

Savella's not one I'd heard of before. Cymbalta is also an SNRI approved for both depression and pain, and enochsmiles was on that for a couple of years. (It stopped working for him as an antidepressant, which prompted the switch to Lyrica, because the pain has been more of an issue.)

And yeah, weird drug reactions are no fun. Tramadol would be a godsend for enochsmiles, but it lowers his seizure threshold too much.

The reason I haven't gotten on a new drug is that my pain has been a lot better over the last couple of years (this year it's been getting worse though) and also, I am ALWYAS the person who has the weird and horrible side effects to drugs. I've been reluctant to go through getting on a drug that might make me sicker and that I then have to taper off of, you know?
