The heel is tucked under like that to be more ergonomic. The best heel should line up with your anklebone. A heel all at the back of the shoe throws you forward and screws up your back. Look at ladies in old movies, all their heels have that curve. I'm so glad it's coming back.

Oh I love that curve in the back of the heel. The weirdness I am noticing is how some heels seem to angle to the outside... I wonder why they do.
