forgot to post about this...
Over the weekend, we sat down with the kids to discuss the fact that, now that it was 100% sure that I was going to grad school, we were definitely going to be moving somewhere. And while there's still the possibility that we might rent out this house and return to it, that would be a minimum of 4 years from now, probably more like 5, so Alma and Lemuel wouldn't be around when we did so.
Reactions were varied:
Nephi: (looking up from his Tintin book): "Move?!" (returns to Tintin book before he hears the response.)
Lehi: "What's going to happen with my birthday?" (since we may be moving about then)
Lemuel: "Five years?!!! I thought it would only take a few months or a year or something! (Don't I wish Ph.D.s were that easy to get!)
Alma: "No surprise there." (He's very canny--had this whole thing figured out long before my grad school apps went in.)
The discussion went on for a loooooooong time, covering logistics, where we were going to go (still unknown as of now), etc. Which is why we waited until the weekend to talk about it: it's the only time we have several hours in a row with no outside demands.
