So...life continues, and with it another election. In short, I was neither surprised nor elated; my overwhelming reaction was "oh thank dog". While I am unhappy with many of Obama's policies, Romney would have been no better in regard to those policies, and struck me as arrogant and morally bankrupt enough to be completely untrustworthy. He comes across as a not-particularly-convincing sociopath attempting to exude compassion and camaraderie with middle America, even if he's probably not that horrible a human being. At any rate, his winning the election would've been against the best interests of a pretty sizable majority of Americans. To me, the truly scary thing was the sheer number of people who still voted for a guy who even Republicans admitted was a pretty terrible candidate, simply out of fear of Obama winning; admittedly, in the other direction, that was my motivation for my vote as well. Those fucking political ads are finally over with, so that's something to be grateful for regardless of political affiliation!
Also, yay for more gay marriage initiatives and legalized marijuana! While I don't believe marijuana to be as entirely harmless as the pothead community would claim, it's nevertheless pretty demonstrably more benign than alcohol, and with the federal goverment's r-tarded policy regarding marijuana, it's about time things got shook up a bit.
I'm surviving, though still fairly stressed. Definitely looking forward to both Thanksgiving (going back to see my mom and stepdad and wuff and cats) and Christmas (going back to see my dad, old roommate from undergrad, and hopefully somebody else--you know who you are!). I'm especially anxious to get back since my poor cat has recently started having seizures and uncoordination, and the vet doesn't know why yet...
I haven't had much chance to get out hiking, except for last weekend. Went with a few guys on some easier mountains, and enjoyed unseasonably warm temperatures and snow conditions for November! It wasn't one of my more memorable days out, but it was still excellent getting out of town and getting some fresh air. Other than that, I'm too tired to think of much anything at the moment...hope everyone's doing well!
