Year-end review

Jan 05, 2003 17:40

Well. Last night was my fourth party in 8 days. That's a hard schedule to maintain. Fun though. Here's a brief recap of my life since, uh, a while ago. (Note that this is the review of the end of the year, not at the end of the year. Well, it's that too, but not the review of the whole year, done at the end.)

Saturday: the Anti-Xmas party was fun. A guy I kinda know was taking pix with his new digital camera. My new icon is from there. More pix are here, though most didn't turn out so well.

Sunday: Sunday night I picked up some friends at the airport at 12:45 am. Their thoughts on asking me: We were looking for someone who we knew would be up late and wouldn't have to go to work in the morning, so naturally we thought of you! See, even the unemployed have their uses.

Tuesday: New Years Eve was spent at the house of a guy who sold some microsoft stock a few years ago when it was worth a bit more. This house is on the south slope of Queen Anne and has three floors of floor to ceiling windows facing south. The running joke was The view would be great, if it weren't for that big white thing sticking up right there. That white thing was the space needle, with the fireworks coming off of it. It was less than a mile away. The second best part of the party was that I don't know the guy, but went because two other folks (burners) suggested that party. The best part was the hot tub on the roof where I spent most of the evening.

Thursday: went to a little birthday party for a friend who's a big swing dancer. Danced a bunch, more than I have in about 3 years. I'm out of shape and out of practice, but still had fun.

Friday: my aunt and cousin came up from Portland to visit overnight. My cousin is going to challenge a high school algebra class, so was coming up to get some review from me. We had a late pho lunch, walked around the U, spent a few hours tutoring, and then went to Fuji for dinner. The best part was watching my aunt prepare for her first bite of eel. Some people aren't cut out to eat sushi. My cousin did fine.

Saturday: got up late, puttered, and tutored all afternoon. Aunt & Cousin were going down to greenlake for a quick walk before the drive home. That was maybe 4:30 or so. At about 6:15 my aunt arrives, very worried. Joe was supposed to meet me at the soccer field an hour ago. He never showed up. After much drama Joe arrived at my house. Turns out it took him a bit longer than he thought to walk around the lake. All was well, dinner was eaten, then they left. The final retribution of a mother scared has not yet been related to me.

Saturday night (last night): went to another party. This one was themed as a debutante party for about 9 people who "came out" of their 20's (turned 30) last year. At this point I'm partying with a number of people who I've now seen at 2 or 3 parties in the last week, some of them with different dates on different nights. Very amusing. More dancing, burners, tuxedos and prom dresses. We looked fabulous.

So that's my life lately. I've got a bit of a sore throat from too many holiday sweets and not enough sleep. If I'm lucky tomorrow (monday) night I'll be in the first class of the grad program I mentioned, though not actually enrolled yet or anything. That's exciting, but maybe it'll suck. Stay tuned, true believers. More news as events warrant.
