Sooo... I graduated!
More pictures
here. As you can see, lots of my favorite people were there, including Dad, Catherine, Buzzy, Saira, Lucy, Debbie, Alison, Bitsy, and Henry. I was so happy to be near them all at one time, I nearly exploded! Some highlights of our togetherness time: taking Buzzy to GameWorks in Minneapolis, where we got hyper on free soda and challenged everyone to Tekken; taking Dad out to Chapati (twice!); watching a Will Ferrell movie on our porch instead of going to the champagne reception; walking to the cemetery with Dad and Buzz (we saw Dacie's grave and also a ghost, I swear!); father-daughter ice cream and walking around time on Father's Day.
And I got Summa Cum Laude, Phi Beta Kappa, and all that good stuff. After I got inducted into PBK, Jackson showed me the secret handshake. Then Clara gave me a hug and a kiss and said, "There, that's better than a secret handshake." I'll miss the Classics profs so much. And Julia and Dacie's. It still hasn't quite sunk in that I'm not going back, I think. Well, perhaps I just know deep down that I will be back.
After my tearful departure, it was time to travel across the country with Catherine's family. I loved spending time with them and seeing more of the west, including South Dakota, Nebraska, and Colorado (unfortunately we didn't go anywhere near where
aredridel lives).
Then I spent a wonderful few weeks with my family. I got to see Hannah for the first time in a year and meet her boytoy Troy. He's awesome and I feel like I've known him forever. We ate ice cream, played many games of Scrabble (I even won a few!), saw WALL-E with Ian, and had many good visits with Grandpa. (And Mom didn't end up coming, which was pretty much a relief for everyone.) I am blessed to have such wonderful family members and to be able to spend quality time with them.
Now I'm with Catherine and her delightful roommates in their spiffy new apartment. Flagstaff is a gorgeous city, one of my favorite places in Arizona. And Catherine, Erin and Amber eat my food and watch Eddie Izzard and Bones with me, so I'm happy. Ooh, and while I was writing this the ice-cream truck came by playing "Home on the Range." I scampered outside, burning my feet on the asphalt, had a conversation with the cute driver about ice cream and the global economy, and ate my Heath Bar surrounded by Flagstaff sunshine and trees.
I'm leaving on Friday from Phoenix, but not before a short visit with
_grayswandir_. I'm excited to finally meet her! And then I get to live with Buzzy(!!!) for the forseeable future. We have a date to look at apartments already. And I have a job interview for a job that I actually really want... I feel like talking about it too much would jinx it, but please wish me luck! It's all coming together in an adrenaline-inducing sort of way.
